Designer Run Notes:
Dear Cast,
The designers had a great time watching the show and all the designers are so enthusiastic to work on the show. I am so proud of you guys that in 8 days we have pulled together a magical show that gets even the overworked, grumpy, and the stinky ready to put in another week of 20 hr days. Thanks
That being said here are the notes for the run:
We have a good show, but we have the potential for an amazing show. My main concerns right now are consistency (the dance numbers that I have spent hours and hours cleaning look great after I clean it, but are not consistently staying clean--you must work to get better and better not lazy and overconfident). People still have a tendency to talk softly during scenes while whaling on the musical number-this is a nightmare for the sound technician. You may have mics but you still must project during the scenes.
I am still taking an awful lot of "cheat out" notes.
Marty's ONE NOTE:
Chad please take the "I've Been with alot of Women, alot of women"-take to audience at least the first two times you say the joke.
My request for the execution of Marty's note, is that you find out where Marty is sitting every night and deliver the line to him. If he isn't there just look out. Thanks.
Jailhouse
Bryan: if you are going to do the lung snaps during your first verse, please do it on the beat (meaning I have the dancers down on the odd counts--1, 3, 5...)
Purple Gang must be sharper on the chase upstage
Bryan: Please look at Punching hillbilly by tomorrow. You are missing the arms for "over the fence" they wing up on 8
Sheldon-Katlyn: legs and arms need to be ten times sharper on the leap section of the STRUT.
Sheldon: I feel that you start loosing the sharpness and all the cleaning work that we have done mid-way through the song. You must carry through to the end.
Heartbreak Hotel
Sam: don't step in front of Dustin for the your line to Sylvia "what are the odds..." save room for Jesus. You can then step in on your next line.
Peyton: keep your x upstage to Sylvia during your solo, but don't turn your back to the audience.
Jerrial: re-act to Sylvia's solo line that she is singing to you.
Jerrial: x more to DSC for the ending moment.
This ending is what I will be adjusting tomorrow.
Roustabout Scene
Molly you will faint on the musical bump after, " I'm just a roustabout...." Anna will give you more specifics.
One Night with You
Thank you Sam for taking the notes, much better
C'mon Everybody
All: find more growth to get you into the dance break.
know that the tempo was a little pushed today and we will be working with Ann tomorrow to find the perfect tempo for each section.
This number is looking so much better, but it is still not perfect and needs you working on it at home.
Scene into Follow that Dream
Thank you for taking the note on your dress joke. Please keep that.
I am very happy with where this scene is going. Keep up the good work.
Follow That Dream is much better--thank you Sam, no scrunch in this one.
Teddy Bear/Hound dog
Amanda: cheat out more in the scene
Good work, this number is very funny
That's Alright Mamma
Peyton/Deidra: The moment you have with natalie and the dress is perfect please keep it. Very touching
All: when Sylvia says "IN LOVE, HE"S not in Love" That's when I want you to look to Sylvia then take a look at Lorraine, which will cause her to get embarrassed
Jerrial: console Sylvia for "I gave and gave and gave"
I need to look at the ending spacing for Katelyn and Chelsea
This song is really getting there, I still need more body languange. I will let you know when you do too much.
Now or Never
Brittinay and Josey; I can hear your scene work
Very nice work thank you
Love Me Tender
Sam: "Oh I might as well be one of the guys" was so much better this run.
Blue Suede Shoes
Anna: Tempo was a little brisk for the dance break. Let's talk about this tempo tomorrow too
Jerrial: I am changing the ending to this dance break. I will cut the cartwheel, because there is a huge traffic issue.
We will look at this moment tomorrow
Don't be Cruel
Bryan: choreography for the "well walk up to the preacher"
Let Yourself Go
Scene is hilarious
Amanda keep the blowing of the nose
Sheldon and Jocelyn: x to 2 and 2 for the pucker up
Boys get up and move to ending positions once girls start their x---I need to look at this.
I have been yelling at you because you are almost holding too long.
This number is going to look great
Can't Help Falling in Love
Scene Before
Earl: please keep the look to your pelvis during face off.
Peyton: after kiss slowly lower your hand and take a moment before moving away
Dierdra; much much better, keep growing from where you left off today
Josey and Brittany: Can not hear scene during song
Sheldon: you should be to the outside of Jocelyn (check your number)
Josey and Brittany: I need more urgency, more tension, more growth to the "Baby"
Start Lovey Dovey then it needs to grow, as if you were going to exit this scene and go directly
into All Shook Up (think sex) instead of an intermission---gestures are okay, in fact encouraged
All Couples: the song needs to grow as if you were going to exit this scene and go directly into All Shook Up (think sex) instead of an intermission
All Shook Up
i need more energy from the male dancers that enter (think prepping for make-out session)
Women: think Foreplay
Jerrial: Backhandspring looks better, but run offstage as if you have somewhere to go or something to do aside from running offstage and dropping character
Jerrial: late on the first "I'm in Love"
This number can use even more energy:
It Hurts Me
Matt: CHEAT OUT DURING SONG
A Little Less Conversation
Bryan: bring Natalie into you slower on your eyes are really pretty. You are defusing your joke by splitting up the build.
Samatha: LEARN THE WORDS TO YOUR SOLO
Samantha: When you run your hand down Chad's shirt, the girls are doing it as well, so it needs to happen every night strongly
Katelyn: I need more facial expression from you in this scene
Power of my Love
Bryan I need you x upstage "How many Sandra' s run the museum" making a "V" with Jim and Sandra
Scene out of Power
Samantha and Amanda: The poses need to be crisp. pose/ pose/pose into "Manly arms. Cut out the fumbling
I Don't Want To
Bryan: "Oh NO" needs to carry you into the song. It's not a nod to the audience, you get plenty of those during the number
Bryan: the button on the song can only be your head tilt that you did today. We will have a tight spot on you--no hands
Devil in Disguise
Chealse: dont over-act in the scene, just re-act to Matilda in a more energetic way. you have too many facial expressions happening at once. It's confusing.
Good work girls on the number
Earl: go over the x for you in the number and the Watch out moments
There's Always Me
Deirdra: Shadows Fall, ...call (I need the consents for Fall and Call)
Deirda: CHEAT OUT for "jim"
Deirda: open eyes after the last riff,, on you pause, then sing the killer note.
Tunnel of Love
Bryan: you are dropping in and out of the scene--follow through with your thoughts even though you are not speaking
don't check out because you are tired
Better during song. I need more. I need to know that you have made a decision.
Revelation Scene
Paul and Keirsten: that was lovely today
Peyton: x ds for "I too want to say that I am in love" whatever your declaration line is---
Deirdra: x to him for your next line VOILA you are in position to sing
Samatha: "No. but I really liked Ed.....scrunch face
Samantha: CHEAT OUT "I'm totally in love with you"
Amanda: PLEASE PLEASE keep "What is your name?"
Burning Love:
Samantha; x to dad for "TUNE UP MY MOTORBIKE"
Samantha: more flirty on "I guess I could use a sidekick"
Robert H: 1st "burning love' choreography should be to Katylen then you turn out for "you got me burnin'"
I am still seeing people point to their crotch for the "Burning Love" choreography.
This number was very sloppy. all arm ography should be sharp!
I will be cleaning this number tomorrow, I want no memory issues.
Bows:
Sloppy on " personal dance" I will clean tomorrow. I expect everyone to have what they are doing memorized.
Thank you for your hard work. I have had a great time working with you and look forward to continuing the journey through tech week.
