FALLS CHURCH ARTS is pleased to announce that popular local artist and teacher

Carolyn Grosse Gawarecki will judge this year’s Festival Competition on June 22nd at ArtSpace Falls Church. Virginia watercolorist Carolyn Grossé Gawarecki is a nationally recognized artist whose paintings are in museum, corporate, and private collections.


An artist for over 30 years, Carolyn is drawn to painting florals, still lifes, and landscapes. Much of her art career has involved teaching. She graduated with a B.A. in fine arts and education from Douglass College at Rutgers University, later followed by graduate work at the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is a popular teacher for art society demonstrations and has led numerous workshops in the United States, Mexico and Europe.

Carolyn also authored “Texture a Watercolor with Casein,” for The Artist’s Magazine, January 1991, and “The Versatile Vignette,” for Watercolor Magic, Summer 1997. Her paintings appear in The Best of Watercolor and Places, by Rockport Press, The Artistic Touch III, by Creative Press, A Virginia Village Revisited, and was featured in Élan Magazine in 2002.

Carolyn has won more than 100 national exhibition awards. She was a finalist in The Artist’s Magazine Annual Competition in 1991, 1995, and 1997. Winning a highly competitive grant to paint in an artist’s cottage in Dinan, France, in June 1997 brought her international recognition, resulting in a successful and well-attended exhibit in September,2000, at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. She has exhibited in galleries throughout the east coast.

The founder and first president of the Potomac Valley Watercolorists, Carolyn is also a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Knickerbocker Artists, Virginia Watercolor Society, Southern Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society, and the Washington Watercolor Society. Carolyn is listed in Who’s Who in America, The World Who’s Who of Women and Who’s Who of the South and Southwest.

The “Scenes in the City” Festival opening day is April 18th.and runs thru June 22nd.

Artists Plein Air Competition is on Saturday, June 22nd. Brunch will be provided and will begin at 11 a.m. and is free and open to all. Award Winners and prizes will be announced at noon, and awarded by the award sponsors with press photos taken.

Artworks must be stamped before painting begins at either Art and Frame of Falls Church or Stifel and Capra beginning on Thursday, April 18th. Cost of stamp is
