I'm interested in your organization and in the peace movement that you are involved in. I have started to organize a meeting at my Synchronicity Center here in Tucson for the evening before the International Day of Peace. My hope is to raise awareness to this cause and we are trying to put together a chain of people who offer their prayers of peace at 10 am on the 21st, in whatever time zone they are in. I would love to hear what you have planned for that day.

Department of Peace Campaign ~ Oregon

Our Dept. of Peace campaign volunteers were sharing the idea of doing a walk to the sea in the essence of Gandhi's Satyagraha on Sept.11.

It would be wonderful to coordinate Sunday services followed by the walk in demonstration of principles of non-violence. I get a sweet visual of that. We are already slated to have a joint service between New Thought Ministries of Oregon and the Baha'i Community here in Beaverton on July 9. I'm looking forward to the energy that comes out of that connection, as it has been building steadily ever since we made contact in March 06. Hold that image.

events for Sept 11th.

1. article for newspaper in Providence, Rhode Island

2. presentation at international meeting of religious women in Canada in July

3. organizing religious women in New York city to celebrate the forgiveness of September 11th

4. prayer and fasting ( in the style of Jesus Christ and Mahatma Gandhi)

As you are probably aware, for the last 12 years Unity has planned and promoted a World Day of Prayer and this is the 13th year. It would wonderful if somehow the two "global unity" peace and prayer events could be intertwined and promoted jointly if not planned and promoted together. If not this year, maybe next. Blessings, Diana

Just FYI, the San Dieguito Interfaith Ministerial Association is going to sponsor an Interfaith event on Monday, Sept.11 on Moonlight Beach at 7:00 PM. We will be doing LOTS of publicity, and maybe your organization would like to assist is getting the word out. It will be Interfaith music and prayers.

Love and Blessings,Christina

Beaverton, OR

I will be leading a Healing Service on Sept. 13, the eve of Unity World Day of Prayer, Unity of Beaverton, OR. There will be someone in the church during the 24 hour vigil praying for peace and harmony, forgiveness and love as well as for other request made by the congregation.

I will be teaching the Forgiveness Song by Rosie Lovejoy as part of my Healing Service. I've taught this song to groups whenever I get a chance and we sing it each week at our ACIM class in Portland. Bless you in this work.

Dear Friends:

As you know, the Peace Choir will be performing at the Arneson River Theatre in San Antonio on 9-11 as part of the centennial celebration of the event which launched Mahatma Gandhi’s work of nonviolent resistance, Satyagraha. Mahatma Gandhi’s granddaughter Ela Gandhi has recognized our event in S. A. as the official U. S. partner to her Satyagraha Conference in South Africa, which will take place during the same week. It is an honor to be recognized as part of the international work of building peace.

Procession of Light

Greater Huntington Beach Interfaith Council

On September 10 at 6:00 PM, the greater Huntington Beach Interfaith Council will present the seventh annual Procession of Light ceremony at the Pier Plaza in Huntington Beach, California.

This event was moved to September 10 this year in order to remember, reflect and reconcile the events of September 11, 2001. We will bring together representatives of many faith traditions, including Islam, Jewish, Christian, Baha'i, Zoroastrian, Mormon, Religious Science and othersin words and music to pray for our community, nation and the world. Ourtheme this year is "Walking Together, A Community in Harmony." The process of creating this event is a collaboration of many people of diverse faiths who work together to create a living example of religious cooperation and unity. This year we have also compiled a 30 page booklet which includes ten principles for religious harmony, andwords of wisdom and prayers from the many sacred texts found in our group.

The event will also present the World Peace Flame, and observe the 100th Anniversary of Satyagraha.

All are welcome. At the conclusion of the event, all participants are given slips of paper upon which they may write their own personal prayers. The prayers are collected and put into a firepit - Daniel Nahmod will be with us and he will sing "One Power." After a dove release, we are led bybagpipers in "Amazing Grace" as we process to the end of the Huntington Beach Pier and back.

Our ministers and practitioners are promoting self-giveness as well as forgivenness of others on both the 10th and the 17th. A speaker at each service will give a brief talk regarding the Season and how we impact the world by forgiving. This is in addition to our ministers' m! essage. We will have multiple practitioners available after each service for treatment. Our healing service will focus on forgiving and our weekly evening service will have a special experiential session on forgiveness. Our handouts are a treatment and a statement of purpose for the Season. We will give white flowers on the 10th and white ribbons on the 17th. Our practitioner group is really excited about this Season moving from an idea to a full manifestation!

Not by diminishing our losses, but instead by creating a day where we pledge first to create peace, harmony and respect at home, and then extend that pledge into our communities and the world.

PRESS RELEASE

9/11 Programme – 100 Years of Non-violence in Mumbai

To,

The News Editor,

To mark 100-year anniversary of modern nonviolent movement on Sept 11, 1906 launched by Mahatma Gandhi, Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal along with other Gandhian organizations organized screenings of the film, A Force More Powerful based on Non-violence Conflicts.

About the Film

A Force More Powerful: A Century of Nonviolent Conflict explores how popular movements have battled entrenched regimes or military forces with weapons very different from guns and bullets. Strikes, boycotts, and other actions were used as aggressive measures to battle opponents and win concessions. Petitions, parades, walkouts and demonstrations roused public support for the resisters. Forms of non-co-operation including boycotts and civil disobedience helped subvert the operations of government. And direct intervention in the form of sit-ins, nonviolent sabotage, and blockades frustrated many rulers' efforts to suppress people

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE RECOGNITION
Thursday, September 21 at 7 PM: In a world that is torn by religious misunderstanding and strife, unite with people worldwide who seek reconciliation, forgiveness and wisdom on this International Day of Peace. Gather at the Fairport gazebo where prayers for peace from many faiths will be shared. For that night the Fairport bridge will be declared a “Peace Bridge” which all assembled will walk across in community. The experience will close with a Peace Day proclamation.
The UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/55/282 fixes the date for the International Day of Peace as 21 September and declares “that the International Day of Peace shall henceforth be observed as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities for the duration of the Day..."
It was on September 11, 1906, that M. K. Gandhi lau nched the first nonviolent campaign against racial oppression in Johannesburg, South Africa, and later he said “There is no way to peace, Peace is the way.”
