RIVERSIDE SPONSORS PUBLIC AWARENESS TALK ON CANCER SCREENING

Fort Frances, ON October 28, 2013–In conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Riverside Health Care wants to remind the public the importance of screening to detect cancer earlier.

Dr. Margaret Woods, Regional Primary Care Lead-Cancer Care Northwest, will be presenting a free public awareness talk about Breast, Cervical and Colorectal Cancer Screening on November 4th at 6:30pm in the Shaw Room at the Fort Frances Public Library.

Dr. Woods collaborates with regional primary care stakeholders to improve the quality, safety and accessibility of cancer services (breast, cervical and colorectal) from screening to diagnosis. In addition, access to care, improved quality of care, support for knowledge exchange and promotion of evidence-based practice are key priorities of her position.

Cancer Care Ontario states that it is estimated that 9,000 women in Ontario will be diagnosed with breast cancer in a year and 1980 will die from the disease. Early detection can reduce this number drastically.

Please join Dr. Woods for this informative session to learn more about the screening tools available to detect cancer earlier and how this can impact your health and well-being. The talk is open to the public, primarily anyone 50 and over or anyone high risk - genetically predisposed, aged over 30.
