AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS THROUGH THE LIFESPAN

Monday, September 17, 2007, 7pm: Autism Spectrum Disorders Through the Lifespan, with Suzanne Lesto and Judith Palazzo at Christ Church Parish House, 250 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT. FREE. Refreshments. Donations welcome. Call 203-661-8510.

Suszanne Lesto, MA, BCB and Judith Palazzo, MS, BCBA from the Center for Child Develop-ment, CCCD, will discuss individuals with autism spectrum disorders of all ages and levels and learning throughout their lives. Parents and educators work together to identify areas of deficits and excesses, create an action plane to address these areas, and specifically teach to those deficits or excesses across environments. Otherwise, what our learners with autism will learn from the natural environment may be limited, and not relevant to their lives.

Suzanne Lesto and Judith Palazzo will discuss how the needs of individuals with autism may change as they grow and how these changing needs can effect the goals and objectives we select as targets of our educational efforts in school, home, work, and community settings. Samples of strategies to help parents and siblings will be provided.

Friends of Autistic People is a not-for-profit charitable organization composed of more than 1,700 parents and professionals dedicated to raising awareness of services and supported living arrangements needed for the entire spectrum of grown children with autism. The organization is developing a Farm Living & Learning Academy Village to provide residential and day program services for up to 40 young adults with autism in Fairfield County.

The September 17th educational program is open to parents of children and adults with any form of autism and at any level of functioning. Professionals and others interested in learning more about autism, which occurs in 1 of every 150 births, are also welcome. FREE. Refreshments. Donations welcome. For information, please call 203-661-8510 or email .
