ULTIMATE RAGNAR RELAY HAWAII ANNOUNCED

FOR 2016 RACE SEASON

Salt Lake City, UT (August 13, 2015) – Ragnar, the premier series of overnight road and trail running relay adventures in the United States, is challenging its runners to find their #innerWILD with the announcement of its newest race, Ragnar Relay Hawaii, taking place October 14-15, 2016 on Hawaiʻi, the Big Island.

“For years we dreamed, researched and planned what the perfect Hawaiian overnight running relay would be like – inspiring scenery, local flavor and runners in grass skirts,” said Tanner Bell, co-founder and president, Ragnar. “Ragnar Relay Hawaii is the perfect blend of beauty, challenge and culture and is sure to inspire unforgettable memories.”

Presented as the “ultimate” Ragnar, the course is just as scenic as it is challenging crossing seven climates and tackling more elevation than any existing Ragnar Relay. Beginning in Hilo, the 200-ish mile relay adventure runs through the rainforest climate of Puna with its turquoise waves and black sand beaches at Isaac Hale Park and rounds the greener side of the island to upcountry Waimea. Quad-burning climbs next to the lava fields on the west side of the island will be rewarded with an ocean-side finish at Hapuna Beach Prince Resort as teams cross under the iconic Ragnar arch together.

Hawaiʻi Island businesses, schools and nonprofits will extend the aloha spirit to Ragnarians, infusing the course with local cultures, fire knife and hula dancers, shave ice, island music and much more at major exchange points.

“The Island of Hawai’i inspires – it brings out the best in all of us,” said Ross Birch, executive director, Big Island Visitors Bureau. “It is no wonder that the Ragnar is being held on this island. Racing teams will enjoy captivating scenery as they traverse through nearly half of the world’s climate zones on their way to the finish line.”
