Strengthening school level governance and accountability: Memorandum of Understanding between Department of Education/National Center for Educational Development (NCED) and Search for Common Ground (SFCG)
24th January, 2017: With the aim to strengthen school level governance and accountability, the Department of Education (DoE)/National Center for Educational Development (NCED) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Search for Common Ground in Nepal. Country Director of SFCG – Nepal, Dr. Bhola Prasad Dahal, along with Director General of Department of Education, Babu Ram Poudyal, and Executive Director of NCED, Dev Kumari Guragain, signed the MoU. According to the MoU, SFCG Nepal through its 3 years European Commission funded project, ‘Hamro Shikshya’ (Our Education) will be working in 42 schools in the eastern region of the country to support and strengthen school level governance and accountability. After the signing of the MoU, Poudyal, stated: “We encourage development organizations sincere effort to strengthen the education system of the country. This MoU between the Department of Education (DoE)/National Center for Educational Development (NCED) and Search for Common Ground (SFCG) echoes the message of collaboration between the government and like-minded organizations to identify challenges in the education system, and work together to address those challenges in a meaningful manner.”
The MoU charters key objectives to compliment the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that identifies good governance as a major pillar to ensure people’s access to rights, basic entitlements, and participation in state structures. Similarly, the MoU also leverages the role of stakeholders to ensure quality education in public schools, and designing participatory mechanisms to ensure the holistic participation of community members to strengthen school level governance and dialogues.
