The Apostles' Creed: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;He descended to the dead.On the third day He rose again;He ascended into heaven,He is seated at the right hand of the Father,and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Guardian Angel prayer: Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here. Ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. AMEN.

The Ten Commandments (in order):

Who made you? God made me.

How many Gods are there? There is one God alone.

How many persons are there in God? There are three persons in one true God.

What are their names? Their names are the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

What does “Holy Trinity” mean? Holy Trinity means that God is three persons in one true God, who shares His divine life with us.

Where is God? God is everywhere.

What did God make you out of? God made me out of nothing.

Why did God make you? God made me to know Him, to love Him and to serve Him

in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in heaven.

Does God love you? God always loves me.

What did Jesus do for you? Jesus died on the cross for me to forgive my sins.

Where is Jesus now? Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father in heaven.

Do you want to join Jesus someday in heaven? Yes, I want to be with Jesus forever.

Prayer

Whom should I pray for? I should pray to thank, adore and praise God. I should pray to listen to God. I should pray for forgiveness of my sins. I should pray for my family, my parish, my friends, my school, for the souls in purgatory and for all the world.

Why do you genuflect? I genuflect to show my love and respect for Jesus present in His body.

Why do we make the sign of the cross? In my baptism Jesus frees me from sin

by His cross, and brings me into the love and life of the Holy Trinity.

How do I use holy water? I use holy water to bless myself, to bless others, to bless the sick, to bless my homeand to bless all good things.

What is an angel? An angel is a being of pure spirit made by God to be His messenger.

What are Guardian angels? A guardian angel is an angel chosen by God to watch and protect me, and to pray for me always.

Who are the saints? The saints are men and women who loved God and their neighbor in this life, and are now happy with God in heaven.

What is a martyr? A martyr is someone who dies for love of Jesus.

Sacraments:

What are the seven sacraments? The seven sacraments are Baptism, Holy Communion, Confirmation, Confession, Anointing of the Sick, Matrimony and Holy orders.

Baptism:

What does your baptism do? My baptism washes me clean from original sin, makes me a childof God, makes me a part of the people of God, and joins me to Jesus, as His brother (sister) and a memberof His body.

Communion:

What happens to the bread and wine during the mass? During the mass, the bread and wine become the real Body and Blood, soul and divinity of Christ.

What is your First Holy Communion? In my first Holy Communion I receive Christ’s body and blood for the first time on my lips. I ask Him to help me love my neighbor and Him, now and forever.

How many types of communion are there? There are two types of communion, Spiritual communion and physical communion. I want to receive both!

Where is Christ present during Mass? During the mass Christ is present (1) in His people, (2) in His Holy Word, (3) in His Body and Blood, (4) in the person of the priest, and (5) in the tabernacle. What is the tabernacle? The tabernacle is the place or golden box where we keep the body of Christ.

Why is the Body of Christ in the Tabernacle? The body of Christ is in the tabernacle for the sick, the dying, and to be with us to pray to Him in church.

Confession, Sin and Forgiveness

What is sin? Sin is freely choosing to do what is wrong

What is Mortal sin? Mortal sin is grave sin which breaks my relationship of love with God.

I must confess these sins to be forgiven.

What is Venial sin? Venial sin hurts me and others, and turns us away from God. God forgives me by repentance, prayer, almsgiving and mass.

What is confession? In confession, the priest in the person of Christ forgives my sins.

What are the conditions for forgiveness in confession? The conditions for forgiveness in confession are (1) being truly sorry, (2) confess my sins by their name, (3) truly want not to sin again (4) to do my penance. If I stole, I must return the fruits of my stealing.

Your Christian Life:

What is the resurrection? The resurrection is when Jesus rose from the dead after three days in the tomb.

What is my resurrection? Jesus will also raise my body from the dead.

What is heaven? Heaven is seeing God face to face, being happy forever with Jesus, the angels and saints.

What is Hell? Hell is eternal punishment and separation from God because of my sins.

What is purgatory? Purgatory is the place after death where God purifies me from all sin, to be ready to see him face to face in heaven.

What is almsgiving? Almsgiving is giving money and good things to the poor.

How should I be hospitable to guests and the needy? I treat guests and the needy as if Christ was with me.

How do I act in Church? I arrive ten minutes early. I throw away gum and food before entering. When I arrive at my seat, I kneel and pray to God. I am quiet before and during mass. I listen to the word of God. I say the words of the people during mass. I can talk after mass is done.

How do I pray before communion? I ask God to make me worthy to receive Him. I thank Him for His great love for us. I make the sign of the cross before and after receiving. When the priest lifts up the host I say to myself, “My Lord and my God!” When the priest holds the cup I say to myself, “Now my Lord and my God!”

How do I pray after communion? After communion I go to my pew, kneel quietly for a while, and thank God for entering my heart. I can offer my communion for others.

Things about the Gospel and the Bible you must learn:

What is the gospel? The gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ. God’s grace makes me able to believe and live the gospel, and in that way I am saved.

What are the scriptures? The scriptures are God's Holy Word, brought to us through the saints in the church.

What do we call the book of the Holy Scriptures? We call it the bible.

What is the difference between the Old and New Testaments: The Old Testament is the history of God choosing a people for Himself, before Jesus came. The New Testament is the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

Who are the four Gospel writers? The four evangelists (gospel writers) are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

How do I learn things about God through the bishops and the people of God:

The Holy Spirit guides the bishops and the whole people of God to give me the true understanding of the gospel.
