Championships progress

ZacStabler and Aaron Boyes have both reached the

¼ final stage of the England Boxing Youth

Championships. It is the third year running that both

boxers have reached this stage of the competition.

For Boyes who has entered into the light

welterweight division it is an even bigger occasion

as in his last two attempt he has failed to get past

the ¼ final stage. He has been drawn to box

Anthony Stout of the Shildon ABC in the North East.

The Bridlington camp can go into the contest full of

ZacStabler after his Yorkshire Final Victoryconfidence knowing that the two have met twice

previously where Boyes was the victor on both occasions however the last contest, when the two met

in last seasons national pre ¼ finals, it was a very close affair so on going into the ring for his 49th

amateur contest Boyes will have to make sure he is ontop of his game.

ZacStabler used his experience well to get through a tough Yorkshire final in the welterweight division

and now awaits to see if the North East enter a competitor for him to box in the ¼ final stage. Failure

to do so would grant automatic progression for Stabler to the national semi finals. Stabler is no

stranger to these stages of the Championships, in the last two years he has finished first and second

in the England rankings but will be taking nothing for granted and will continue to train hard for them.

Head Coach Damien Grant says “the two lads are very capable boxers, this competition is ultimately

trying to seek the very best that England have to offer and therefore the two will have to make sure

they are in peak condition, the pair have been training hard in the gym, sometimes as early as 6.30 in

the morning, they are out there doing the running, even in the bad weather, they are extremely

focused on the task in hand and will go into every contest knowing they have put 100% into it”.

Stabler will take a day out of his training regime on Saturday 1st February to attend a presentation day

at the Institute of Sport in Sheffield. On the day Zac will receive his official England vest for going with

the England Squad to last Years Junior Tri-Nations where he came home with a bronze medal.

Connelly in third skills contest

Cameron Connelly travelled to Sheffield to take part in his third skills contest. A skills contest consists of 3 x 1 minute rounds, there is also no winner or looser at the end, it is purely aimed at introducing young boxers to boxing in front of a crowd. Due to his age skills contests are all that he is allowed to take part in at the moment. He was in with Harrison Barton of the Parson Cross ABC in Sheffield. Connelly did very well in front of a very big crowd, the more the contest went on the better he got and he finished very strong. Due to rules set out by England Boxing Cam is only allowed one more skills contest as 4 in the maximum. He will then have to wait until his 11th birthday in august before he can begin competing officially. it is un decided yet whether his final contest will be at the home show at the Spa in March or on another away show.

New year new young boxers eager to learn with mixed

ability session for all to learn have been changing, so

focusing on circuits and fitness has been a great for all

juniors! Trying to teach the ability to listen and then

follow the set task, giving them all the chance to have

fun with training using teamwork and all working

together, all of them having the opportunity to work with new people

and being able to learn from watching others skills and picking

up the good points and being able to identify the occasional mistake.

A great atmosphere in the gym of hard work has been demonstrated

during bag work with dramatic improvementsbeing made each week,

either its faster shots or footwork and being able to stay on their

toes for the whole time asked its the hard work that’s showing.

Once again more girls are coming down to the gym showing

enthusiasmlet’s hope everyone continues to keep up the hard work

and continues to impress.
