Biomes Project Names______

You will research the biome that you have been assigned and put a travel brochure together based on the information that you have gathered. The brochure must include the following topics:

1. climate, weather and terrain(how the land is shaped, ex. flat, mountainous, hilly)

2. dominant plant life, name at least 3, include pictures of each example with scientific names

3. dominant wildlife, name at least 3, include pictures of each example with scientific names

4. Geographic distribution, include a map to show locations label the map with locations (continents, or general areas : Africa, Southern US, etc)

5. Interesting facts, give at least 5 (facts not already given in your other information, examples include: medicines developed from products there, major supplier of oxygen, etc.)

6. food/web or food chain to demonstrate trophic levels (minimum of producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer), need a minimum of 4 organisms and it must be separate pictures from the ones used to represent the wild and plant life in the biome.

7. At least 2 plant and 2 animal adaptations needed to survive in this biome.

8. Human impact (positive or negative) or environmental threats/concerns to this biome. This can also include endangered species that live in this area.

9.  Remember, this is a travel brochure-if you don’t make it informative and attractive, I won’t want to visit, and if I don’t want to visit you won’t get a good grade!

You will work individually on this project and you may have to do some research outside of class (printing pictures from internet or cutting them out of old magazines).

You will be given 2 class periods to complete this project.

The brochure is due completed by Tuesday, October 4th.

Biome Brochure Rubric

1. Brochure has several examples of wildlife 1 2 3 4 5

2. Brochure has several examples of plant life 1 2 3 4 5

3. Brochure has climate, weather, and terrain listed 1 2 3 4 5

4. Brochure has Geographic distribution 1 2 3 4 5

5. Interesting facts given 1 2 3 4 5

6. Food chain/web has 3 trophic levels and is 1 2 3 4 5

labeled separately from wild and plant life

Total=______

5 rating is superior, above and beyond expectations, 3 or more examples are included each of plants and animals, climate, weather and terrain facts that are accurate, geographic distribution given with map to demonstrate locations, 5 or more interesting facts given, food web/chain is present and has arrows to show energy flow and at least 3 trophic levels are represented, poster is easy to read and appropriately organized

4 rating is good, goes above expectations on most points, 2 examples are included each of plants and animals, at least 2 of the 3 are discussed (climate, weather, terrain) that are accurate, geographic distribution given with map hard to read, 4 or more interesting facts given, food web/chain is present and has some arrows to show energy flow and at least 3 trophic levels are represented, poster easy to read and appropriately organized (some mistakes)

3 rating is average, meets expectations on most points, 2 examples are included each of plants and animals (missing pictures), at least 1 of the 3 are discussed (climate, weather, terrain), geographic distribution given with no map to demonstrate locations, 3 or more interesting facts given, food web/chain is present and has some arrows to show energy flow and at least 2 trophic levels are represented poster easy to read and unorganized (mistakes obvious)

2 rating is poor, meets expectations on few points, 1 example is included each of plants and animals, climate, weather and terrain factors used are not accurate, geographic distribution given very brief, 2 or more interesting facts given, food web/chain is present and has no arrows to show energy flow and at least 2 trophic levels are represented, poster is hard to read and poorly organized

1 rating is unacceptable, meets no expectations, only 1 example is included each of plants and animals or no animals named and only pictures, climate, weather and terrain are not discussed, geographic distribution given with map to demonstrate locations, 1 interesting fact given, food web/chain is present and has no arrows to show energy flow and at least 1 trophic level represented, poster is very poorly organized unable to read or follow
