Fifth Grade Procedures

Arrival Procedure

ü  Enter the classroom SILENTLY and be prepared to do your Personal Best

ü  Move your magnet indicating your lunch choice and attendance

ü  Take care of lunch money

ü  Go directly to your seat and unpack your backpack with everything you will need in the room

ü  Hang your emptied backpack in your locker

ü  Get materials ready for the morning, this includes sharpening pencils

ü  Turn in paperwork and designated assignments as indicated on the daily agenda

ü  Be in the room, seated, and quietly working no later than 8:55

ü  Copy today’s agenda in your agenda notebook

ü  Have Planner out and ready to use throughout the day

ü  If all other Agenda items are completed, silently read a book while waiting for Mrs. Allen’s announcements

Dismissal Procedure

ü  When your group is called by the teacher, quietly go to your locker to get your backpack, coat, etc. and return to your seat

ü  Collect anything you need as designated by your teacher

ü  Return to your table and pack your bag

ü  Remain seated, waiting quietly for your teacher to direct you to line up, not the intercom announcement

ü  Put up your chair

ü  Stop, look your teacher in the eye, shake her hand, and say farewell

ü  Follow established hallway procedure: stay in a single-file line on the left-hand side of the hallway

ü  Go directly to the correct door

ü  DO NOT stop at the restroom or the drinking fountain

Guest Teacher Procedure

ü  Treat the Guest Teacher even more respectfully than “regular” teacher(s)

ü  Follow all classroom and Joan Martin procedures

ü  Follow procedures as defined by the Guest Teacher

ü  Follow Lifeskills and Lifelong Guidelines

ü  Call the guest teacher by his/her correct name with the appropriate title (Mr., Miss, Mrs., or Ms.)

ü  Be helpful when asked

ü  Make the Guest Teacher feel welcome

Lining Up Procedure

ü  Clean-up and clear your space at the table

ü  Push in chair

ü  Take only necessary materials

ü  Walk directly, safely, and silently to your spot in the line

ü  Line up single file, facing forward, and in number order behind the line leader

ü  Keep hands and feet to yourself

Returning to the Classroom After Lunch Procedure

ü  Line up silently in the lunchroom

ü  Walk silently from the café to the classroom

ü  Form a single file, silent line two squares from the wall outside the classroom

ü  The first person in line will check to see if there is an adult in the classroom, be aware of when the lines starts moving into the classroom

ü  If you have to wait for an adult, wait in a single file line, facing forward

ü  Keep hands and feet to yourself

ü  Keep equipment in your hands

Do NOT leave the line for any reason without permission from the teacher

Restroom Procedure (As a Class)

ü  Stand and wait in a silent, single file line outside of the restrooms north of the drinking fountains

ü  Maximum of 3 students per gender in the restroom at a time

ü  WATCH for your turn - As one student exits the restroom, the next student in line may enter the restroom

ü  Leave all materials outside the restroom, pick up your materials before getting in line to return to the classroom

ü  Don’t dawdle or mess about, remember others are waiting on you

ü  Avoid inappropriate behavior both in the restroom and in the hallway

ü  Get a drink, if you so desire

ü  Line up across from the bathroom to return to the classroom

ü  NO talking, remember the Fifth graders are working in their classrooms

ü  Wait for the teacher’s signal to return to the classroom

Inappropriate- unsuitable for the time or place

Restroom/Drinking Fountain Procedure (Individual)

ü  Ask the teacher for permission, “May I use the restroom (or get a drink), please?” (NOT during workshop time or while the teacher is teaching)

ü  When permission is granted, write your name and time leaving in the sign out book

ü  Only one student may be out of the room at a time

ü  Return to the classroom within three minutes

ü  Upon returning to the classroom, record the time of your return in the sign out book

Switching between Mrs. Kasiak and Mrs. York’s Classrooms Procedure

ü  Take all necessary materials (this varies depending on the class you are going to)

ü  A fine will be assigned if you need to return to your classroom for materials

ü  Make sure to have your Assignment Planner

ü  Always have a book for Silent Self-Selected Reading (S.S.S.R.)

ü  Follow procedure for lining up

ü  Stay to the left while leaving and entering the classrooms

ü  Go directly to your seat in the other classroom

ü  Inform the teacher if something is left out at the space where you need to sit

ü  Sit quietly and listen for instructions

ü  Respect the other students’ and school’s property

ü  If coming in late, do not disturb the class that is already started

These procedures were written together during the first week of school. Students who do not follow these established procedures will be fined according to our fifth grade economy. Students who DO follow these procedures will be rewarded through our fifth grade economy. Repeated failure to follow the procedures will result in a MOP form to the office.
