  1. Call to Order: Sean Meily
  1. Approval of meeting minutes from 1-6-13: Linda Bonness
  1. Co-President’s Report:Sean Meily, Sherri Klaus
  • General business and updates (finances, organization, etc.)
  • Sean discussed the need for volunteers and lack of participation by parents. There are clubs that require volunteers to give a certain number of hours as part of the club. In order to host a qualifier, it is necessary for all the families to volunteer in some way. We will send out an email with specific jobs and mention that players can fill spots and then phone calls will be made to those who have not volunteered.Follow-up phone calls will be made by grade level representatives. After the qualifier tournament we will re-visit future guidelines for volunteers.
  • Sherri talked about the clothing order mix-up with Collegiate Pride. Collegiate Pride charged us $4 per shirt. If players want to keep the white T-shirts with their numbers, they cost $4.00. Sherri will send out an email and ask the players who have the T-shirts to return the laundered shirts or pay $4 for their shirts.
  • We need to get the track suits out of the shed. Angela will get them out and a parent meeting will be held to go through the track suits. Angela will talk to Peg Pennepacker about the old uniforms in the shed and what we should do with them.
  1. Treasurer’s Report: Julie Bown
  • FH Booster Club Budget
  • Bank Account update
  • The Booster Club discussed the finances from the qualifier
  • Stu requested the Blue Lions Indoor pay half of the USA Field Hockey Club fee, which will save both of us $150 (the total cost for a club membership with USAFH is $300).
  1. Follow-up on Action Items: Committee Chairs
  • The updated practice and game schedule has been posted– Sean
  • Everything is updated on both websites
  • Gym cancellations and practice make-up time were discussed. Gym cancellations are dictated by the Athletic department and we don’t have any control over when cancellations are made. The coaches are being paid pennies on the dollar for each hour they work and we are keeping track of the coaches hours.
  • Preparedness for the NIT Qualifier– Sean and Sherri
  • We are prepared with everything except volunteers.
  • One of the refs would like to come and check out our pitch and make sure things are set-up correctly.
  • Yolo sports will be at the qualifier and will set up Friday night in the MNMS cafeteria. YOLO is the official sponsor of USAFH.
  • Trainers are coming and will be located in the teachers’ lounge in the Middle School. Trainers in the Mt.Nittany Elementary school will be on the stage in a room next to the gym.
  • NIT Qualifier Concessions – Angela
  • All the hot food will be in the cafeteria at the middle school. Both schools will have concession tables. Next year we would like to work with a vendor, Honey Baked ham, or Panera, so we can bring a order to the teams and will advertise to the teams ahead of time.
  • Leigh suggested we would like to have a recycling container where we can put the cans, etc. after the event.
  • Angela and Dave will work to make directional signs so people know where the food is located.
  • Feedback on the indoor season – Sean
  • Difficult not to have Stu here at the beginning of the season. All three coaches will be there Saturday and Sunday during the qualifier.
  • Coaching is going to be an issue in future years since Molly is going to grad school.
  • We don’t have enough players to field three teams for the qualifier and not enough goalies.
  • For everything other than the qualifier we will have three goalies and three qualifying teams.
  • Some of the girls are concerned with training time, but on the competition team level the playing time will not be equal. We are transitioning as a team from the previous philosophy of the Happy Valley club to the expectations of the Blue Lionsclub and as the level of play has increased, some of the expectations have changed as well.
  • We had a great tournament at the WC Eagles training center. It was a good opportunity for the girls to play against some tough competition.
  • The Middle school team needs more training, but they have enjoyed themselves. It will take some time to build up the level of play at this age group.
  • Tournament team felt like they got smoked at the Indoor Roar tournament.
  • Tournament team playershave enjoyed training with Stu.
  • This has been the best year out of the four years that the senior parents have experienced for the indoor season.
  • Preparation for Middle School Field Hockey
  • Ask indoor middle school parents to start the middle school booster club. We would like to see an active Booster club at the Middle School level. Discussed the kind of support we need.
  • Seniors will help with the Middle School.
  • Talk to Karin about the updated website and organizing a meeting for interested players (and possibly parents).
  • Uniforms for Middle School – Athletic department will take care of middle school uniforms.
  • Update and information needed for Field Hockey Handbook – Leigh
  • Handouts, timelines, contacts, Homecoming float.
  1. New Business
  • Additional items for discussion
  • Sherri Klaus said we may have a clothing order sheet for Blue Lions this year including Rugby shirts, etc. We are working with collegiate pride to put this together..
