TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR TRAINING IN AGRIBUSINESS AND MARKETING FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES (SMEs)

  1. About the project

Gwassi Integrated Community Empowerment Program (GICEP) is a project being implemented in Gwassi, Homa Bay County. It has two components, the social political component being led by Undugu Society of Kenya and Economic Empowerment component being led by Farm Africa. The purpose of the project is to improve the social and economic resilience among households in Gwassi division.

  1. Consultancy Objectives:

The objective of the consultancy is to train 2 SMEs in Gwassi on Agribusiness and marketing and equip them with knowledge, skills and tools relevant to succeed in managing dynamic agricultural value chains.

Specifically the consultant in consultation with Farm Africa will conduct the following trainings to the SMEs:

  1. Agricultural market information Systems
  2. Management of client relationships
  3. Market risk analysis and mitigation
  4. Stock and inventory management
  5. Agricultural value chain analysis
  6. Design and administration of business score cards
  7. Profit and Loss (P&L) assessment and developing cash flows
  1. Expected Deliverables

Two trained SMEs (approximately 10 participants) with the following outputs:

  1. 2 SMEs have developed a basic market information system relevant to the value chain they are working in
  2. 2 SMEs are equipped with knowledge on how to manage the different clients that they are working with
  3. 2 SMEs have the capacity two analyze there different market risks and are able to design mitigating measures.
  4. 2 SMEs are able to analyze there value chains and strategically position themselves for profitability.
  5. 2 SMEs are able to design a system for their stock and inventory management
  6. 2 SMEs are able to design and administer balanced score cards for their enterprises
  7. 2 SMEs are able to determine their profits and losses and can generate their cash flows
  8. Training modules that can be used by the SMEs

The training is expected to take approximately 3 days

  1. Skills and competencies

The consultant should be a certified trainer and should have previous experience training SMEs/ Agricultural oriented enterprises in the areas of agribusiness and marketing. The consultant should also be able to develop and edit manuals for training. She/he should have at least a masters degree in agribusiness, agricultural economics or other related fields.
