Q: Will there be an instructional section on the Dealer website?

Yes, there will be a Help page on the Dealer dashboard. Additionally, each transaction that is presented online will have a portion of the page dedicated to helpful instructions.

Q: Where can a Dealer go to have day-to-day questions answered?

Q: Will the new system offer online registrations for new vehicles?

Vehicle registration is a function of the Indiana BMV. Information regarding registration can be found on the BMV’s website at You may also contact the BMV at (888) 692-6841.

Q: Will the new system offer the ability to search for repo titles?

This is not a function of the Office of the Secretary of State. You may access certain title information maintained by the BMV by creating an account through IN.gov/account or National Motor Vehicle Titling Information System ( There are also third party services that provide vehicle title information.

Q: Where can a Dealer go to obtain information on what should be in the dealer jacket and what information should be kept for audits?

Requirements related to records that must be maintained can be found in the Indiana Code, accessed via the Indiana General Assembly website (Ind. Code § 9-32). You can find information related to documents examiners request as part of an audit on our website at

Q: Will the new system offer a police check to see if the vehicle was stolen?

No. This is not a function of the Office of the Secretary of State. Contact the police department in the location in which the vehicle was reported stolen.

Q: Will the new system be able to show if the title is a “clean” title?

No. This is not a function of the Office of the Secretary of State. For vehicles with an in-state title, you may request title history information from the Indiana BMV. For vehicles with an out-of-state title, you may contact the state that holds the title. You may also check the National Motor Vehicle Titling Information System ( There are also various third party services that offer title information.

Q: Will a Dealer be required to select their dealership each time they go into the Plates on Demand screen to access the interim plates?

If the Dealer is associated with only one dealership then the system will automatically take the user to that dealer information in Plates on Demand. For users associated with multiple dealerships, they must select which dealership to use for the interim plate they are generating.

Q: Will the new system integrate with a service like the USPS to validate address information?

This is not a current feature of the new system.

Q: Will the new system offer a reporting feature in Plates on Demand so that a Dealer can create a report of their interim plate information?

The ability to export data in the interim plate log to Excel or PDF will be available to Dealers.

Q: Will the new system allow additional comments to be added to the comment section on each interim plate, even after the 3-day window?

The new system will allow additional comments to be added, even after the 3-day period.

Q: Will the new system have a data field to enter the sale date?

This is not a field in the new system. By law, the plate must be issued at the time of sale, or when the customer takes delivery of the motor vehicle if the sale has not yet been finalized (whichever is earlier).

If a customer wishes to use the license plate from the vehicle they are trading in of the same class, it should be verified that the plate will be valid for the entire 45 day period to ensure the customer may continue to operate the new vehicle while awaiting their new title and registration.

Q: Will the new system be available in other languages?

No. The new system will be available in English.

Q: Will the new system offer a live chat feature?

This is not a current feature of the new system.

Q: Will the new system have a search feature in the Plates on Demand section?

Yes, a user will be able to search by customer name, VIN and other information to find issued interim plates. Additionally, the historical information will be displayed and can be sorted by any of the headings.
