MORRELL’S MUSINGS
From Press Secretary, Neil Morrell
Saturday Scene 22nd March 2014
Current Premier Division leaders, South Park, Division Leaders suffered a 0-4 home reversal to Westfield, and second placed Camberley Town also suffered a heavy defeat following their trip to Colliers Wood
United.
Max Blackmore stole the show for Westfield at Whitehill Lane as he bagged all four goals on the afternoon to send the hosts to only their third home defeat of the season. According to the website at Westfield, first half matters were a bit on the bad tempered side from time to time as both sides
battled for superiority but with the half drawing to a close Blackmore opened his account for the afternoon to put the visitors a goal to the good in the 44th minute. The advantage was then doubled two minutes into the re-start as Blackmore doubled his and Westfield's tally. The fighting never say die attitude that South Park have showed for most of the season looked to be draining away from them when on 56 minutes they went even further and it just seemed they were simply unable to cope with this man Blackmore as his treble effort for the afternoon was bagged. He then scored a fourth with the clock ticking down to inflict a 4-0 defeat upon their hosts who despite this setback still have the comfort of a ten point lead on their nesrest challengers who are now Epsom & Ewell, following a similar reverse for Camberley Town.
They found themselves on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline following their trip to the Wibbandune Sports Ground to play a rejuvenated Colliers Wood side. Four goals in the opening 36 minutes comprising of two each from Mario Embalo and Dan Harding propelled the hosts into what looked like a totally dominant position against their high riding opponents. Marcus Cousins did pull one back though minutes before the half time interval offering a slight glimmer of hope second half for the Camberley Town contingent.
Hopes were dashed though as on 65 minutes as a fifth Colliers Wood goal arrived courtesy of Theo Woodhouse making it 5-1 on the afternoon. The Final say goal wise though was with Camberley as with eight minutes left Manny Quarshie converted a penalty to bring it to 5-2, - bad day at the office for Camberley equally though tremendous result for Colliers Wood who moved up the table a couple of places.
Swapping places with Camberley were Epsom & Ewell who thanks to three first half goals sent Ash United home empty handed having inflicted a 3-0 defeat upon them. An 8th minute own goal set them on the way followed by additional efforts from Karl Doughlin two minutes later and Sam Robinson a minute into first half stoppage time.
Windsor and Bedfont Sports fought out a 1-1 draw at Stag Meadow in one of those games maybe best forgotten, apart from a fantastic save made by the Bedfont keeper Alex Wines and a goal-line clearance Windsor found chances they created not so long ago they would have probably buried, not today though. In the second half things improved quite considerably though and on 62 minutes Darryl
Sanders made Windsor pay for their missed chances as Bedfont went a goal up. The visitors held this slender lead for just over fifteen but with 78 minutes on the clock we were all square again as Rob Lazarczuk and visiting keeper went for the ball and the Windsor man seemed to get there just Before, to dink the ball past him and into the net and catching the Bedfont keeper as well unintentionally. During this injury hold up Paul Dexter of Bedfont took it upon himself to voice his thoughts to the referee and was shown a red card.
Looking briefly at other Premier Division activity results were achieved by struggling Horley Town 1-0 at Raynes Park Vale to take them off the bottom of the table, Alton Town were behind for barely a minute
but came back strongly to beat Hanworth Villa 3-1 at Anstey Road and Badshot Lea likewise came from behind to beat Frimley Green 3-1 in their home contest. Hartley Wintney were 3-2 home winners over Croydon, and finally Wembley were 1-0 home winners over Mole Valley SCR - Yas Fhmi-Gil hitting the winner just before the quarter hour mark.
The Farnham Town Vs Molesey game fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.
Division One continues to be led by Spelthorne Sports following our latest round of results. 2-1 was their latest victory against Dorking who now sit bottom of the league whllst Knaphill in second spot bounced back from their midweek County Cup defeat and were 8-1 winners over at Banstead Athletic.
In one of the days shock results C.B. Hounslow secured a tremendous 1-0 victory over at AFC Croydon Athletic. The 'Rams' (AFC Croydon) were unable to reply to a 73rd Aston Ventour effort from the visitors who moved off the bottom of the Division One table as a result of this win.
Neil Williams hit the all important winner for Eversley & California five minutes from time over at Sheerwater.
It was a good day for Bedfont & Feltham as well, having falling behind to a tenth minute Harry Cobb goal for Cobham, they ran out comfortable 3-1 winners.
At the start of this season it was very much my thought that Staines Lammas would be there or thereabouts promotion wise and despite their latest setback which was a 10-1 mauling over at Chalky Lane against Epsom Athletic it will be interesting to see how they react from this setback. Scorers on the day for Epsom Athletic were Taylor Henderson on seven minutes, Wayne Cathcart grabbed a couple, Connor Young, Aaron Cathcart, Rob Guest and finally Taylor Mollatt, whilst all Lammas could muster up was a effort.
The proposed Sandhurst Town Vs Farleigh Rovers game at The Bottom Meadow fell foul of a waterlogged pitch.
Finally folks for today over at Worcester Park the home side secured a 2-1 home win over South Kilburn to cap off a wonderful week for themselves having earlier on in the week secured their place in the Final of the Surrey Premier Cup final on Monday 7 April.
