Family run local art businesswins prestigious international website award.

On 12th May 2018, won the coveted Fine Art Trade Guild’s Art Business Website award. Beating off stiff competition from around the world, the recently formed company brought the award home to Hampshire, where the family company is run and the work is to be displayed at Mayfly Vintage, Stockbridge.

Filthy Beasts Ltd. launched the website filthybeasts.com in November 2017. It is dedicated to the work of acclaimedartistDiz Wallis. Diz has produced a unique range of limited edition giclée prints, featuring a rogue’s gallery of disreputable animals. Her traditional style and exquisite detail are counterpointed by the often-humorous scenarios, making them a very unusual offering to the market place.

The company was created as a collaboration between Diz and her son-in-law Neil Biddlecombe, combining Diz’s artistic prowess with Neil’s background in digital design and development they went into partnership. While working with one’s in-laws may not be to everyone’s tastes, Neil and Diz have found that their familiarity has worked in their favour. “Trust and respect are the most important things you can have in a business partner,” says Diz, “andhaving known Neil for over 20 years, I knew he was the perfect man for the job.” Neil is equally complimentary, “Diz’s skills are quite remarkable and the art work is such great fun. It makes my job easy.”

Ever the pragmatist, Neil chose to use WordPress andWooCommerce as platforms to build the site. Being well tested, easily updatable and with a host of reliable and well supported plug-ins, they offered all that was required to create an aesthetically pleasing, easy-to-use and secure site.Furthermore, as WordPress and WooCommerceare open-source platforms, Neil hasbeen able to produce and run the website, with a little bit of savvy and a very modest financial outlay.

This award is a great testament to not only the quality of Diz’s artwork but also Neil’s design and business acumen. As Neil says: “We are immensely proud of what we have achieved in such a short space of time and for such minimal cost.Filthy Beasts has been a delight for us to work on and we hope to delight our customers for many years to come.”
