LA302 – Modern World Studies

The Catcher in the Rye – Literature Circle Assignment

While reading The Catcher in the Rye, you and one partner will produce a literature circle portfolio that will contain:

·  Lyrics of two modern songs that relay/connect to themes in the novel, each with a one-paragraph explanation of the connection.

·  15 examples of literary terms that appear in the novel (similes, paradoxes, hyperboles, etc.).

·  Two modern connections to the world outside of the novel (articles about the author or topics related to the story).

·  Three cited passages that you see as the most important in the novel, each with one-paragraph explanations of their thematic significance.

·  An original book review of the entire novel.

·  Three visuals that represent symbols, conflict, plot, character development in the form of original charts, diagrams, or drawings.

Some class time will be given, as presented on the calendar below and on my School Loop page. Whatever work you do not complete with your partner in class must be finished outside of class. On days not designated for LCA work time, we will have regular class discussions and assignments in regard to the book.
