West Virginia University invites applications for a full-time, 9 month, tenure-track position in animal reproductive physiology/endocrinology located in Morgantown, WV.Competitive salary is commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Duties:
The position will be in the Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences, whose primary mission is teaching, research, and service in the broad areas of animal agriculture as well as its contributions to food and fiber production. The successful applicant will be a member of the Interdisciplinary Reproductive Physiology ProgramFaculty, which is composed of scientists in the Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences plus the WVU School of MedicineDepartments of Physiology and Pharmacology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The program and its faculty have established international reputations for quality research as well as the development and education of reproductive biologists to work in animal and human research.
Teaching (50%)
The successful applicant will be expected tocontribute to the overall teaching mission of the Division and University. Teaching will be allocated to:
1) 100% effort or lead the instruction of a general endocrinologycourse;
2) general histology with a laboratory; or physiology(general, integrative)
3) graduate course in a nonduplicative areaapplicable to his/her background
4) advise undergraduate students
5) mentor graduate students
Research (50%)
The successful applicant will be expected to elevate the division and reproductive physiology program’s reputation through individual and collaborative research accomplishments using agriculturally important animals (beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, poultry), and grantsmanship, as well as becoming an influential member of the national and international reproductive biology communities. The specific reproductive research area is flexible but must be consistent with the above description. Research laboratories, classrooms and faculty offices in a new building, opening summer 2016, are available.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Effective oral and written communication skills, record of scholarly achievements including publications in peer-reviewed journals, and ability to secure extramural researchfunding are essential. Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree (completed by the time ofappointment)in reproductive physiology or a closely related field with significant ability in instruction and research using, preferably, animals important to the food and fiber industry. Postdoctoral experience(12 months or more)providing evidence of outstanding research and excellent teaching potential isdesired.
