Bowling Green, KY 42101

Positions

-  Associate Professor, Western Kentucky University, 2007 – present

-  Assistant Professor, Western Kentucky University, 2002 – 2007

-  Assistant Editor, Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Princeton University. 2000-2002

Current Projects

-  Researching an article meant to contextualize slave punishment across the colonial Atlantic World through an analysis of the racialization of torture and severe punishment. I begin my examination within the context of medieval torture, colonial punishment of whites and Africans, as well as punishment in African slave societies.

-  Beginning a book that will place the Seven Years’/French and Indian War into an Atlantic context, examining the ways in which that war helped determine which empire would control commerce on the Atlantic Ocean.

-  Completing a book tentatively entitled “The Doorways of Havana,” that examines the cultural and historical space of the many doorways in the older section of the city of Havana. The idea of this volume is to not only highlight the architectural beauty of the colonial buildings in Old Havana, but to also use the doorway itself to frame culture in the old city. Research and photography completed, February 2007.
