Name of Role / Richmond Travel Buddy Co-ordinator
Responsible to / Employment and Involvement Manager
Post Description / To set up and run aTravel Buddy Scheme in the borough of Richmond. The Travel Buddy Co-ordinator will match up young people with disabilities to a volunteer travel buddy who will support them plan and learn routes on public transport and to access services and leisure opportunities.
Experience & Knowledge / Skills & Abilities
Essential
  • Experience of working with young people
  • Knowledge and experience of inclusive engagement methods for young people
  • Understanding of confidentiality, data protection issues and safeguarding issues
  • Understanding of the social model of disability
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS word, outlook and other applications
Desirable
  • Experience of working with disabled people or vulnerable groups
  • Understanding of equalities issues
  • Experience of Managing Volunteers
  • Knowledge of Makaton

Main Tasks and Duties
  1. Set up and run the Kingston Buddy Scheme
  2. Develop marketing materials, leaflet, website content, and ensure the project is widely advertised and is accessible to a wide variety of clients
  3. Recruit, train and manage volunteer ‘travel buddies’
  4. Meeting with the individual to go through the options available to them
  5. Match buddies and young people
  6. Keep accurate records of all clients participating in consultation and maintain a database of client information, continue to update client record with progress and outcomes.
  7. Complete all monitoring and evaluation as required by the funder.
  8. Involve young people in the running of the project in a variety of ways.
  9. Providing inclusion training at activities
  10. Develop partnerships with other organisations that work with disabled children
  11. Write Quarterly summary reports
  12. Write full end of project report which details findings and makes recommendations about future services.
  13. Ensure that the project is compliant with the Social Model of Disability
  14. Comply with Richmond AID’s policies and procedures
  15. Attend training and development as identified by you and your manger
  16. Any other work commensurate with the level of this post
  17. You will need to travel within LBRuT and Kingston as part of this post and occasionally may need to work outside of normal office hours including evening and weekends.
