ESL/BiL/DLI

I will research and implement new vocabulary teaching strategies, procedures, and activities within my classroom so that ELL students will better retain, comprehend, and utilize the new vocabulary learned in their everyday communication and transfer the information to other settings. Through using visuals and making connections, students will be empowered to take ownership of their learning and will increase their interest and interaction level within the classroom.

To improve my skills in working with English Language Learners and to create opportunities for my students which allow for personal experiences in order to improve achievement in all content areas based on grade level benchmarks.

I will design instruction, create and interpret assessments, and plan accommodations so that instruction meets grade level standards and matches the linguistic proficiency of all students, but especially English Language Learners, in their intellectual, social, and emotional development.

Extend understanding of the essential structures of ESL and Bilingual Education and the academic content areas in order to improve service delivery for English Language Learners and to increase their academic achievement based upon grade level content standards.

Differentiation, Inclusion, & Cultural Relevance

I will develop my understanding of how adolescents differ in their approaches to learning and adjust my instruction so that the individual needs of students in my classroom are met.

To eliminate race and culture as predictors of success in MMSD by using research based racially and culturally responsive practices that support engagement, learning and relationships.

I will improve my ability to implement differentiated instruction geared toward all student needs and interests so as to enhance individual motivation for learning so they may achieve academic success.

To improve my skills in implementing an inclusive classroom with a special emphasis on the “best practice” in order to increase students’ achievement based upon my school’s academic benchmarks.

I will learn and work to implement classroom management techniques so that my classroom is more focused on the content of the lesson rather than the behavior of the students, and student achievement will improve.

Library:

I will study the standards and content of the science and social studies units taught at each elementary grade so that I can build a library program that supports classroom instructional units and that includes a collection of materials that support a diverse student body with differentiated academic needs.

I will increase my knowledge and skills in analyzing and selecting library resources that support the socio-economic, curricular, and academic / differentiated needs of my students, so that students will recognize and value the diversity of the library resources and increase their use of those resources to meet their academic and personal needs.

Literacy:

I will work to improve my literacy instruction to increase my students’ achievement based upon school, district, and state-given benchmarks.

I will learn the content of the literacy resources and literacy assessments available to me in my district, so that I can develop a variety of learning experiences to meet the academic and developmental needs of students in my classroom, which will increase student achievement in the area of literacy.

I will improve my skills in implementing a balanced literacy approach in my classroom to increase my students’ interest in reading and writing, and increase thei9r achievement based upon k-5 grade level benchmarks.

Math:

I will research and study math resources and assessments provided by the district so that I can create differentiated learning and accurately assess student progress, which will driver further differentiation and improve student achievement in the area of math.

I will deepen my understanding of mathematics at the elementary level to include children’s development of mathematical concepts assessments appropriate to use so that I am able to support students learning and growing in math.

I will research and study my districts math resources and assessments to improve my skills in implementing a balanced mathematics program in my classroom with a special emphasis on four block in order to increase my students’ achievement based upon my school level benchmarks using formal and informal assessments.

I will learn how to successfully use visual, verbal, and written mediums to enhance and encourage student communication so that students can effectively express their mathematical thinking to themselves, peers, and adults through verbal and written communication.

Music

I will do research on teaching Choral Music to Middle School Students so that I am up to date on proper teaching methods, teaching age appropriate technique, and how to engage students with age appropriate choral music.

Physical Education

I will grow in my knowledge of culturally relevant physical education games, programs and curriculum so that all students, including special education and ELL students can be included and successful in my elementary physical education classes and work toward meeting my district’s grade level physical education benchmarks.

Pupil Services

I will participate in the school’s reform process to implement Response to Intervention practices prior to the State of Wisconsin’s full implementation projected date of 2015. This means that I will learn about and implement systems-wide RTI practices so that the academic progress of all children, but in particular the academic progress of struggling children, will increase.

I will create or adapt K-2 classroom guidance curriculum so that understanding awareness will be realized around what the counselor’s job is and why you would utilize the office in order to be a resource for all of the school’s population so that I will be able to reach more students and families as a resource and minimize obstacles the student or family maybe facing which hinder the student’s academic progress or achievement. My professional growth is impacted by this goal in that I will undertake the pursuit of knowledge of the Spanish language and Mexican culture as well as dualism (children toggling between two cultures). Additionally, I will research activities, agencies and best practices for mental health, cr4ate curriculum and a resource library where there had been none before, track the use of the counseling office, work on community building activities within the school and gather feedback from all parties involved as to the success or failures of the efforts.

Spanish

To improve my Spanish skills so that all students in my classes can enhance their language acquisition through meaningful interactive communication.

Speech & language

I will improve my understanding and use of speech and language classroom practices in order to increase student benefit from education programming as evidenced by improved classroom grades and/or advancement on Individualized Education Plans of 80% of students served.

I will increase my knowledge and understanding of speech and language impairments so that I can provide instruction and services that meet the needs of all students and help them to be more successful based upon their individual needs as demonstrated by student work samples and progress on their Individual Education Program goals.
