Everyone must answer all of the following questions in at least one twelfth grade level complete sentence using Google Docs. The title of the assignment is “Exploring SAILS”. When you finish all five questions, be sure to turn the assignment into your shared Google Drive folder.

  1. How many stars on the poster will indicate you have finished SAILS English 12?
  1. Based on your pacing guide and points distribution packet, which of the five modules will likely take the longest for you to complete based on the due dates? What is your theory for why that is the case? In other words, why is that unit so time-consuming?
  1. You must complete a major writing assignment in the first module. What is it, when is it due, and how many points is it worth?
  1. NROC Units teach important writing skills such as using proper grammar and correct punctuation. How many NROC Units do you have to complete in each module? How many NROC Units must you complete in the whole course?
  1. There are several extremely critical assignments that are worth lots of points. They typically come at the end of each module. They are called culminating assignments. These tasks require you to demonstrate all the skills you learned in the module, usually by writing papers. Which assignment is worth the most points in the whole course, how many points is it worth, and what is your theory for why it counts so much toward your final grade.

Discuss all three of the following questions in your groups. Then choose the question that sparked the interest of your group the most. Help one group member type a paragraph in Google Docs answering the question. Be sure to put all group members’ names on the document. The title of the assignment is “Why English?” The paragraph must have a topic sentence, three supporting ideas, and a concluding sentence (at least 5 total sentences). Only the person who typed the paragraph needs to turn it in. Finally, copy and paste your groups paragraph into TodaysMeet to share with the class.

  1. Why is it important that all Americans read an agreed uponselection of literary masterpieces? There are several reasons why we still teach many of the same worksin high school that your parents and even your grandparents had to read, such as Romeo and Juliet, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, etc…
  1. Do high school graduates still need to be able to speak and write using standard English (capitalization, punctuation, grammar, etc…)
  1. Why is this class, SAILS English 12, a valuable opportunity for you?

Hint: Using transitional words to achieve coherence (flow).

For your second idea, you could start by saying Second, Next, Also, In Addition, etc…

For your third idea, you could start by saying Third, Finally, Lastly, Most importantly, etc…

For your concluding sentence, you could start by saying To conclude, In conclusion, In summation, To sum up, etc…
