European Police Championships 2018

Every four years the Union Sportive des Polices d’Europe hosts a European Police Triathlon Championship. The event is held over the Standard Distance. The 4th edition of this event will be held in 2018 in The Netherlands. We are yet to be informed of the date and the venue.

The PSUK race team will be selected by a Selection Team of Ian Tyers ( Team Manager / PSUK Tri Secretary), Stuart Dinwoodie ( Physio), Del Pitcher (advisor -, team manager for 2006 and 2010 championships), Libby Free (female team captain) and Karl Free (male team captain).

The Selection Team are committed to ensuring that PSUK is represented by those who show commitment to PSUK by supporting our events and have therefore agreed an eligibility criteria for those wishing to be considered for the team.

The team will consist of up to 6 female athletes and up to 6 male athletes. The top four male finishers count towards the team result, and top three females.

USPE rules dictate that only police officers are allowed in the team. It does mean that at this time police staff are ineligible for entry. However, this may well change by the time of the 2018 competition.

Selection Criteria

1.  Athletes must compete in at least three of the 2017 PSUK events, unless there are special circumstances which exclude an athlete from doing so.

2.  It will be a matter for the Selection Committee alone to decide whether or not circumstances are considered ‘special’. In such a case, participation and results from the PSUK 2016 series of events will be considered.

3.  For all other athletes, results from the 2017 events will be considered by the Selection Team.

General

For the USPE event race entry, race kit and clothing, travel abroad and accommodation costs will be met by PSUK. Application can be made to your Forces for travel costs within the UK and time off. There is no automatic right for time off to represent PSUK.

There is an expectation that those selected to represent PSUK will regard this event as an ‘A race’ for 2018 and as such will participate in preparation training camps / weekends in 2018.
