DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF MISSION AND SPIRITUAL MINISTRY AND PASTOR OF THE WEST ALAMEDA COMMUNITY BAPTIST CHURCH

PURPOSE

______

The Office of Mission and Spiritual Ministry is an outgrowth of the West Alameda Community Baptist Church (Church), which envisioned and built the ETR/ET11 complex. The Church is housed within our facilities and is affiliated with Eaton Senior Programs, American Baptist Churches USA, American Baptist Homes and Caring Ministries, and American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountains.

The Church and the Office of Mission and Ministry of Eaton Senior Programs are grounded in the belief that all persons are children of God to be valued and cherished. Persons of all faiths and outlooks are welcomed, and our mission is to respect and nurture the meaningful faith traditions that have brought strength to our residents and staff throughout their lives. The Golden Rule and the Commandment to “love your neighbor as you love yourself” form the guiding principal of our spiritual ministry.

CHARACTER OF THE MISSION AND SPIRITUAL MINISTRY

The ministry supports and builds community by:

·  Being present in everyday experiences of residents and staff

·  Offering opportunities for worship: The Centrum is a holy place set aside for prayer and worship

·  Offering opportunities for study and support, thus giving expression to the unique spiritual work of elder persons

·  Viewing our housing facilities as a community where all faiths are encouraged, respected and nurtured

AUTHORITY

______

The Director of Mission and Spiritual Ministry is accountable to the President/CEO of Eaton Senior Programs, its Board of Directors, and the Board of the West Alameda Community Baptist Church, or its successor. The Director is responsible for making independent judgments and for taking action.

RESPONSIBILITES

______

The Director of the Office of Mission and Spiritual Ministry is responsible for:

·  Serving as Pastor of the West Alameda Community Baptist Church and leading worship services on Sunday, special occasions, and holidays

·  Maintaining affiliation with American Baptist Churches USA, American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountains, American Baptist Homes and Caring Ministries, and other spiritual communities

·  Developing and implementing a spiritual ministry that includes Bible study, prayer, worship, and learning experiences, which enhance the development of the unique spiritual gifts of elders

·  Advocating for residents’ well-being and rights to fair and equitable treatment and care

·  Encouraging staff to identify, recognize and learn from the unique gifts and experiences residents bring to the facilities

·  Developing and implementing a “ministry of presence,” which fosters a sense of community, and which includes “being present” in the daily lives and activities of residents

·  Offering pastoral support for residents, family, and staff

·  Conducting memorial services and follow-up support for those in grief, including making referrals as needed

·  Developing an annual budget and goals for the Church and the Office of Mission and Spiritual Ministry

·  Consistently supporting and demonstrating the mission, vision and core values of the organization through pastoral, spiritual, and supportive activities with all stakeholders

·  Visiting, and coordinating a volunteer visiting program for, residents in hospitals, rehab facilities, and nursing homes; and following up with those who have moved away from our facilities


PERSONNEL FUNCTION

·  Maintains positive relationships with all departments of Eaton Senior Programs

·  Identifies the need for additional staff in the Office of Mission and Spiritual Ministry

·  Provides development, training and evaluation of job performance annually

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

·  Attends and participates in workshops and seminars to maintain professional status

·  Participates in organizations that enrich self and community

BUDGET AND PLANNING FUNCTIONS

·  Formulates an annual budget for the Office of Mission and Spiritual Ministry to be submitted to the CEO, the Church governing body and Wellspring Senior Foundation

·  Develops goals for the year, including education opportunities and new programs, and submits to the CEO, the Church governing body and Wellspring Senior Foundation

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

·  Must be an ordained minister with an ecumenical outlook and experience

·  Must have at least 3 years experience in serving seniors

·  Must have effective written and oral communication skills
