Hours of Work: Full Time; 35 hours per week

Salary: £28,000

Contract:Post is funded until 30 June 2017and subject to continued funding. 6-month probationary period

Main Purpose of the Post

The Equality ProjectsOfficeris responsible for managing a broad number of

projects/initiatives within the Scottish Disability Equality Forum, and is expected to operate with a significant degree ofautonomy. It is important this post holder has knowledge and understanding of the barriers disabled people have relating to Inclusive Communication, Transport, Employability, Hate Crime and Accessibility.

The Equality Projects Officer will assist the CEO in the implementation of the organisation’s strategy to work towards social inclusion in Scotland through the removal of barriers and the promotion of equal access for people affected by disability.

Working alongside the CEO, the Equality Projects Officer will be responsible for the
day-to-day running of the organisation from an operational perspective. Duties will include those outlined below but will be reviewed ongoing as the direction of the organisation

changes.

The Equality Projects Officer will also work with the Access Team, ensuring that activities tie in with broader SDEF work and reducing duplication of resources. The post holder will also action and oversee activities associated with other funding streams, including Equality Unit and Transport Scotland in conjunction with the CEO.

The Equality Projects Officer will work with the CEO on financial duties, including preparation of budgets, executing payments, and following existing fiscal protocols whilst seeking always to improve upon current processes.

Main Duties of this Post

Line Management Duties

The Equality Projects Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the office and will line manage the administration staff to ensure an efficient and coordinated approach to workload across all funding streams. Direct line management is as follows:

Support provided by the Equality Projects Officer will include 6 monthly reviews, identifying and implementing relevant training and opportunities for growth, development and where appropriate, promotion. The Equality Projects Officer will also be responsible for addressing challenges with staff, escalating where required, to the CEO.

Strategic/Operational Support to CEO:

The Equality Projects Officer will support the CEO in an operational and strategic capacity to deliver on outcomes as set out by the business plan.

Capacity Building

The Equality Projects Officer will work alongside the CEO to engage with voluntary, private and parliamentary bodies with a view to promoting access, equality and inclusion for disabled people, as well as ensuring that SDEF’s work is visible and respected across partners, groups and public bodies.

Information Dissemination

The Equality Projects Officer will oversee the delivery and dissemination of information (e.g., policy, training) guidance and publications, delegating as appropriate to the relevant staff. This post will also require overseeing of accessible formats and inclusive communication, liaising with relevant staff as appropriate.

Partnership Building

The Equality Projects Officer will work alongside the CEO to build new relationships and maintain existing relationships with a view to identifying opportunities for growth and development

Income Generation

The Equality Projects Officer will work alongside the CEO to explore and secure new funding streams and opportunities for income generation.

Policy engagement

The Equality Projects Officer will work with the CEO and Access Engagement Officer on relevant policy work, e.g., Scottish Government policy consultation and responses.

Local and National Engagement

The Equality Projects Officer will work alongside the CEO and Access Engagement Officer, engaging with Local Authorities, NHS and other public bodies to influence decisions and ensure that access and inclusion are key components of decision-making processes

Reporting

The Equality Projects Officer will report to the CEO and Board of Directors as required, providing quarterly reports of activities, and keep the CEO informed of potential issues as they arise.

Evaluation

The Equality Projects Officer will work with the CEO to ensure that monitoring and evaluation processes are operational in all aspects of SDEF work. This information will be collated and form part of the quarterly reports to the Scottish Government.
