Employment Shouldn’t Be In Jeopardy Activity

PowerPoint Game Instructions

This PowerPoint game is designed to provide participants with a fun and interactive way to test what they have learned about employment from the activities they have participated in. Please feel free to modify the supplied questions/answers in the PowerPoint to accommodate any activities you did not conduct, or to accommodate participants with various disabilities. The rules and instructions for the PowerPoint are similar to that of the popular television game show, Jeopardy.

Instructions for utilizing the Jeopardy PowerPoint game:

Step 1 – Based upon the size of your group, separate the participants into two or three teams. Label each team as Team A, Team B, etc. (or have them pick a unique name for their team).

Step 2 – If possible, recruit a volunteer to keep score on a dry erase board or on a flip pad on easel, allowing one column per team to track scoring. The facilitator can also keep score, but it will be much easier if one person does nothave to juggle operating the game and keeping track of the score.

Step 3 – Open up the “Employment-Jeopardy-Game-PowerPoint.ppt”and start the slideshow by clicking on the “Slideshow” tab at the top of the window, and choosing “From Beginning” on the top left.

Step 4 – Advance the slide by clicking with your mouse anywhere on the screen, or by using the right arrow key on your keyboard. Once you reach Slide #2, stop there. This slide contains a board containing five categories, with each category containing five different point values (200, 400, 600, 800, & 1000).

Step 5 - Explain the rules to each team as follows:

  • Each team, when it is their turn, will choose a category and a point value.
  • When it is a team’s turn to play, have them choose a category and a point value. Once they choose a specificcategory and point value, you will click on the chosen number representing the point value for that category and a question will appear.
  • After asking the question, wait for the team to provide an answer.
  • If the team is able to answer it correctly, then they will get the points.
  • If the team tries to answer the question, but are not able to come up with anything, the opposing team will then have a chance at answering the same question.
  • If the opposing team supplies the correct answer then they will get the points for that question.
  • If neither team can supply the correct answer, then neither team will be awarded any points for that particular question.
  • After a team has answered correctly or incorrectly, and have been awarded or not awarded the point value, the team who last answered correctly will be able to pick another question from the category board.
  • Once back to the category board, you will repeat the steps above.

Step 6 – Begin Playing the Game

  1. After the playing team chooses a category, click directly on the point value to go to the slide with that question ** Be sure to click directly on the point value, otherwise the PowerPoint will advance to the next slide (as opposed to going to the slide designated for that category/point value). ** Whichever team is taking its turn will try to answer the question.

If the team is able to provide an answer, allow them to give their answer.

OR

If the team participants are unable to provide any answer at all, then allow the opposing team an opportunity to answer and receive the winning points.

OR

If neither team is able to provide an answer, then go ahead and proceed with the instructions below to display the correct answer.

  1. Once an answer has been given, display the correct answer by clicking twice with your mouse anywhere on the screen, or by pressing the right arrow key (on your keyboard)twice. ** Be careful not to advance the slide too far (by clicking past the point where the answer appears), otherwise the next question/answer will appear. **
  2. If a correct answer is given, have the scorekeeper write down the winning points for the team who provided the correct answer.
  3. If neither team is able to provide the correct answer, then neither team is awarded any points and you can move on to the next question.
  1. To move on to the next question, simply click on the “Back” button found on the bottom left corner of the Slide. At this point, you will return to the category board slide and the team which gave the last correct answer will choose another question by stating the category and point value they would like.
  1. Once all of the questions have been answered, the team with the highest amount of points is the winner. Prizes (if available) and accolades can be awarded to participants on the winning team.
