The Employee Benefits Team is part of a global network of lawyers, which together form one of the leading global practices. In our San Francisco and Chicago teams alone, there are 18 and 8 share plan lawyers respectively.
There is commitment within the London office to develop the London team further, a policy which is reflected in the appointment in July 2006 of Jeremy Edwards as partner.
In London, the Employee Benefits Team sits within the Employment Department, which has:
6 Partners
6 Senior Associates
14 Associates
6 Trainee solicitors
3 Professional Support Lawyer
2 Consultants
Required Background:
A lawyer with experience in employee share plans and employee tax issues.

Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will come from a similar city firm background and have experience in Employee Share Plans and Employee Tax issues. It is essential that the candidate has strong academic (minimum 2.1 degree), personal and technical skills needed to support the client work of the department. It is also important that the candidate has strong client management and relationship skills in this client facing role. Excellent written communication and drafting skills are required. This is an opportunity for a dynamic individual with an interest in business development and outstanding technical skills to join a small but growing department and be a key part its success.
The candidate may come from a tax practice where they have specialised in Employee Incentive and Tax related issues and may have gained their experience and training in a top tier overseas Firm.

Sample of Current work:
The work in this practice is a mix of:
  1. Advisory - The variety of work is very wide, eg assisting US based companies launch into the UK market; providing advice to UK based clients on employee taxation issues, advising clients on Revenue compliance requirements
  2. Transactional - including cross border and UK focussed transactions (examples include - acquisition of Kidde and more recently the acquisition of the company operating American Idol)
This group has a substantial core practice and generates its own work through a strong market reputation. In addition work is obtained through referrals from other Baker & McKenzie offices around the world and from the Corporate Practice. This results in a wide variety of interesting and complex matters for the lawyers in this team.
