Minutes of March 25, 2008 Meeting

President Fred called the meeting to order @ 7:05 PM.

There were no guests this evening.

Ray Fribance has prepared an introductory letter for new and prospective members. The letter informs the person of our history and all that is entailed in our membership fee. It also outlines the one time $20.00 membership package fee which includes name tags, copy of SAAC bylaws, bronze licence plate/grill badge, SAAC window decal, key chain, SAAAC roster, copy of library inventory, NAAACCC membership card and other discount cards. Also included is a membership form to be filled in after attendance of three meetings.

Fred asked if there were any errors or omissions for the minutes of the February 26, 2008 meeting and none was indicated. The minutes were M/S by Greg Brash and Norm Mowles, carried.

Wayne Oscvirk gave the treasurers report. Wayne explained that the 2008 budget presented last month showed a small surplus but had to be amended due to oversight of Big Sister $200.00 donation non-payment. This 2008 budget will now show a small deficit. He also gave information on our deposits and disbursements for the month as well as a final balance for our accounts. Wayne motioned for receipt of report and it was accepted.

Wayne asked that anyone who has been issued a cheque for expenses for club business cash or deposit the cheque as soon as possible. He had a cheque issued in November 2007 only recently go through. This will make it easier to keep all finances current.

The club requires members to fill out a membership information sheet to keep current. Wayne stated we need to have the following members fill out a sheet- Tony Poncelet, Michel Tremblay, Terry Rugg, Ron Harmatiuk, Al Francis and Randy Stene. Membership forms are available on the web site or see Wayne.

Correspondence at the front table this evening: copies of the club bylaws, auto events calendar for 2008, Majestics annual car show entry forms, Moose Mountain Cruise May 16-18 in Manor SK, NAAACCC membership cards, Riverhurst car show July 12 and information from Borden SK community development committee regarding a tentative date of August 23 for a car show in their community.

President’s report: Fred discussed the strategic planning committee meeting that took place Wednesday March 19. This meeting is a precursor to the Saturday March 29 meeting with a facilitator. The Wednesday meeting gave guidelines to what we should be talking about on March 29. The committee is made up of executive members and John Boehmer, Paul Collyer, Jim Ewert from the Scattered Spokes, Gene Searcy, Ray Fribance and Dave Ballantyne. Fred asked if there were any questions and there were none.

HOBBY SHOW- Last month there was extensive discussion on the woes of this show. It came close to making a motion to disband the Hobby Show. Then Paul Collyer of the Optimist Club wanted to discuss a new option. Paul briefly discussed the Optimists ideas then met with the executive at our

March 4 meeting. After both meetings Fred got a feeling we needed to get a new venture. Fred reported the meeting between the Executive and the Saskatoon Optimist Club. After much deliberation, the

Executive prepared a motion that we discontinue our involvement with the Hobby Show and end our relationship with the Muzzleloaders and the SAAC partner with the Saskatoon Optimist Club to host a new fundraising event. This was seconded by Lloyd Minion. There followed much discussion, debate and questions about this momentous decision. At the end of this discussion it was agreed that two separate motions were warranted. Fred asked the members if the original motion could be withdrawn and hearing no objections moved first that we disband the Hobby Show and sever our relationship with the Muzzleloaders. This motion was seconded by Mike Van Grondelle. Show of hands FOR- majority, AGAINST- minority, carried. Second motion is to enter into a new venture with the Saskatoon Optimist Club. This motion was seconded by Remmus Reichert. Show of hands FOR- majority, AGAINST- minority, carried.

INTERNATIONAL TOUR – The tour application were available at the front table tonight. There are updates available on the web site. It is accessible to members through our web site from the main page. Click on links and double click on “Running Great in ‘08” area to get to the web site. Norm said there will be a meeting Thursday March 27 7:00 PM at Saskatoon Boiler on Quebec Avenue. The Regina club has stepped up to host the Thursday registration night wine and cheese reception. Our club will reciprocate for them when they host the 2009 tour.

DRAGGINS SHOW-Glenn Hoff thanked everyone who helped keep doors secure or put cars in. Norm said that he hoped next time we can get more cars out. Have 120 members but only got 5 cars this time. Someone mentioned there was also a problem this year with snow drifts and an inability to get to vehicles due to early Easter. The SAAC banner was not up at the show, Norm said there was no help and he could not take down at the Circle Park Mall and erect it again at the show. Ritchie Rasmussen won a trophy for his rat rod, Norm won for his corvette, Pete Thiessen won for his Sport Fury, Roy Dietz won for his T-Bird and Jim Smith won for his Lincoln Continental. Congratulations to all!

There is no event planned after this meeting. If any members know of something we can do after a meeting please let the Executive know.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE- Dave Huber apprenticed under Al Jennings last year and is now setting dates for events for our club this year. Fred also talked to Orville Saturday March 22 to se if he would like to go to the Draggins show but Orville had just returned.

Norm stated there is no dust control at the Circle Park Mall and said he would appreciate it if members could go by and clean their cars.

Fred related a recent experience returning to Canada from the U.S. with car parts. He was charged both PST & GST because he came through a Saskatchewan border crossing. He asked the guard when did they start charging PST and the guard said they have always done it. Fred said he doesn’t ever remember paying PST previously. It was stated by a club member he should have come through in Alberta and he would only pay GST.

Gene Searcy also related a story about a U.S. trip. This was back in the days of a mandatory front plate on all Saskatchewan cars. A young man saw his plate and said all the girls he ever met from Saskatchewan beautiful. The young man attributed the mountain air for their beauty.

50/50 draw was won by Paul Collyer. The amount was $50.75.
