Requirements for Tutor Hiring in Position Levels I, II, Ill

1. Any student being considered for a Peer Tutor position must be an active student at Mt. San Jacinto College or other accredited 2 or 4 year college. S/he must enroll and maintain at least 6 units throughout the entire semester of hire.

2. A prospective tutor must successfully complete the TA-100 course with an "A"

in order to be considered for a tutoring position. (Please note: prior to fall

2011, the course was titled TA-80)

3. A prospective tutor for the Writing Center must have completed TA-100 and English 103 with an "A". (Please note: prior to fall 2011, TA for writing was titled TA-82 or Eng 91)

4. A prospective tutor for the Math Center must have completed TA-100 and Math 96 with an "A", and be concurrently enrolled in a 100 or 200 level math course. (Please note: prior to fall 2011, TA for math was titled TA-81)

5. Tutoring in all other disciplines requires a grade of "A" in the specific courses being tutored and successful completion of TA-100.

6. Along with a completed Tutor Application, applicants need to submit:

a. A copy of all college transcripts; unofficial is acceptable.

b. A short introduction letter communicating the subjects s/he would like to tutor and why. In addition, the applicant should provide any pertinent information regarding past tutoring experiences, as well as other skills s/he has to offer the LRC. Please address this letter to the Tutorial Services Specialist of the LRC.

NOTE: All required documents for a. and b. must be submitted at the same time. No digital/e-mail copies of applications will be accepted. Submit a hard copy of the application package to the Learning Resource Center's reception area. To submit the application in person to the TSS, please make an appointment via e-mail or by calling (contact info below).

7. Letters of Recommendation: a prospective tutor must have two letters of recommendation submitted on his/her behalf. These recommendation letters must come from faculty teaching in the discipline the student plans to tutor. Recommendations can be sent directly from the faculty members to the Tutorial

Services Specialist.
