Fire
· If you discover a fire follow O.R.A.C.E.
· If you hear the page or alarms have been activated - Report to assigned station.
· Check annunciator panel to determine location of fire if it has not been paged. They are located behind nurses stations in acute and nursing home.
Medical Alert -Cardiac Arrest
· Assist with resuscitation if needed and trained to do so.
· Lifting /transport help.
· Keep visitors/ patients away from area.
· Direct emergency medical personnel to location if needed.
Security Alert -Disaster - Internal or External
· Report to assigned area. Read safety manual for department specific responsibilities.
· Lock out – only allow patient to enter. Direct family to clinic entrance
Security Alert- Violence -Potential for uncontrolled or violent behavior
· Call the police
· Stay away from conflict area.
· Move patients / visitors away from the area if indicated and safe to do so.
Security Alert – Missing Child or Infant
· Report to areas for search/ security as designated.
· Lock in- All staff remain in facility until “all clear” paged or you are released by authorities.
· Get make and license of all vehicles leaving the area
Security Alert- Missing Adult
· Report to areas for search/ security as designated.
· Search all rooms, bathrooms, stairwells , parking lots.
· Report back to command center within 15 minutes
Weather Alert :
· Tornado Watch - weather conditions show potential for tornado - secure area
pull curtains, remove items from window sills etc
· Tornado Warning - tornado sighted in area -assist with moving patients/ visitors to shelter.
· No beds in hallways
Facility Alert- Building Threat-(bomb threat)
· Remain calm –
· Alert co-worker to notify police/ manager
· Take notes -find out -time to explode, location - inside, outside , hospital/ nursing home, what it looks like - color and size ;what type of explosive
