Welcome to your new role with the Iowa 4-H Youth Development program! The Iowa 4-H program has over a century of rich history and foundation helping to meet the needs of Iowa youth through educational, fun, enriching learning experiences. The Iowa 4-H program’s volunteers play a critical role in the success of the 4-H program!
We want to assure that we have helped to prepare you for your new role as a 4-H volunteer and assist you along the way. An important piece of that preparation is attending New Volunteer Training. The Iowa 4-H Youth Development program offers New Volunteer training for all new volunteers. This training will provide you with a foundation for the program as well as guidance, experiential learning concepts, ideas, tips, and tools that will aid you as you begin working with the youth.
The Iowa 4-H New Volunteer training program is designed to be flexible for volunteers, with an online learning component as well as a face to face component, both are required within your first year as a 4-H volunteer. The online learning consists of 4 training sessions that should be completed prior to the face to face New Volunteer Training (NVT). The 4 online trainings can be taken at any time prior to the face to face training and are designed to be short, 15 minutes or less per session via 4H Online. The face to face training will be offered in an area near you and will be approximately 3 hours. Find the registration links for each training date and location on the Volunteer Training webpage to register for an upcoming face-to-face training in your area. I have attached a help sheet to walk you through the steps to access training via 4H Online.
