Elementary School Physical Activity Requirements

Students in grades Kindergarten through Grade Six are required to participate in moderate or vigorous daily physical activity for at least 30 minutes through the school year as part of the district’s physical education curriculum or through structured physical activity led by the classroom teacher.

Middle School Physical Activity Requirements

Beginning with the 2008-2009 school year, students in Grades 7 through 8 are required to participate in at least 30 minutes of daily moderate or vigorous physical activity for at least four semesters.

School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

During the 2015-2016 school year, Lackland’s SHAC will meet four times including:

Vending Machines

Students in the Lackland Independent School District do not have access to vending machines. All student vending machines have been removed from school campuses.

Tobacco

Lackland ISD has adopted policy related to use of tobacco products by students on school campuses or at school-sponsored or school-related activities including:

LISD Board Policy FNCD (LEGAL)

USE OR POSSESSION BY STUDENTS

The Board shall prohibit students from smoking, using, or possessing tobacco products at a school-related or school-sanctioned activity on or off school property.

ENFORCEMENT

The Board shall ensure that District personnel enforce the policies on school property.

Physical Fitness Assessment

Lackland ISD has adopted policy related to a parent’s right to request in writing their child’s physical fitness assessment results at the end of the school year including

Physical Fitness Assessment

Annually, the District shall assess the physical fitness of students in grade 3 or higher in a course that satisfies the curriculum requirements for physical education under Education Code 28.002(a)(2)(C), using an assessment instrument adopted by the Commissioner.

The District is not required to assess a student for whom, as a result of disability or other condition identified by Commissioner Rule, the assessment instrument is inappropriate.

Each student must be assessed based on factors related to student health, including aerobic capacity; body composition; and muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility, unless a particular factor is inappropriate for that student because of a health classification defined in 19 Administrative Code 74.31 [see EHAA].

Report

The District shall provide the results of individual student performance on the physical fitness assessment to TEA. The results may not contain the names of individual students or teachers or a student’s social security number or date of birth.

Confidentiality

The results of individual student performance on the physical fitness assessment instrument are confidential and may be released only in accordance with state and federal law.
