This course will deal with the issue of using technology in the curriculum. Particular emphasis will be placed on integrating technology into the science classroom with relevance for math and technology teachers. Topics to be covered include:

  • Introduction and Background on Integrating Technology in Education
  • Educational Technology in Context
  • Learning Theories and Integration Models
  • Using Software and Media Tutors and Tools in the Classroom
  • Instructional software – Concept mapping
  • Productivity tools – word processors, spreadsheets
  • Multimedia – presentation software
  • Hypermedia – Internet

As part of this course, you will design and deliver a;

  • Webquest
  • Probe-based experiment
  • Spreadsheet-based data analysis exercise
  • Video analysis
  • MAPLE exercise

Text – Integrating Educational Technology into Teaching, Roblyer and Edwards, 2nd ed., Merril/Prensitce Hall, available at bookstore.

Evaluation – The course will involve in-class discussions(2), presentations, quizzes, and several minor and one major project. All will be graded.
