WN 2014Orientation Language Placement

Exam Schedule

Online Placement Testing

Spanish is an online placement test made available for incoming students, the parameters of which will be explained below. Please read the instructions in their entirety, and follow the designated link. All test results will be given to your academic advisor and reviewed with you during your advising appointment at orientation. Results cannot be provided ahead of time by the Office of New Student Programs.

Browser Requirements

For the exam, you will need a computer with a web browser. It is recommended that you take the tests using Firefox, version 3.0 or later, as your browser. Other supported browsers are:

•For Windows: Internet Explorer 7+ or Opera 9.1+

•For Macintosh OS X: Safari 3.2.1+; Mac OS 9 is not supported.

•For Linux: Konqueror 3.3+

In addition, please have your uniqname and password readily available. Be sure your computer is fully charged (and with enough battery) if you are away from an electrical outlet. Arrange to take the online test in a quiet area, free from distractions (TVs, phones, etc.), and allow yourself ample time.

Online Spanish Placement Exam

Results from the online Spanish exam are used to determine which course level is appropriate for your skills, since students have had different experiences learning Spanish. After taking the exam you will not see your results immediately, but will receive them during academic advising at orientation. If your score places you in the range in which you meet the LSA language requirement, you may be asked to meet with a representative of the Spanish Department at orientation to have your score validated.

The exam will be available starting November 18, 2013 on CTools and must be completed at least 5 business days prior to your orientation date.

All students who have taken Spanish in high school and beyond MUST take the exam. If you do not complete the test beforeorientation, you may not be allowed to register for a Spanish course.

If you have received your AP/IB test scores already, the website: indicates the level at which you’re eligible to enroll. You must still take the Spanish Placement Exam to determine what course we would recommend; however, your AP/ IB placement could override your placement if it is higher.

Allow yourself approximately one hour to take the exam at Log in using your uniqname and password. Then follow the Spanish placement exam instructions.

Students who need special assistance for the online Spanish exam should contact the LSA Testing AccommodationCenter at to make a request for extended time accommodations two (2) business days in advance of when you will take the exam.
