2013-14 Staff Positions
Editor-in-Chief (THE Boss):
●Overseer of section editors
●Assists adviser (Mr. Aminian) in misc. ways (training other staff, goals, etc)
●Lays out at least one page, each issue
●Verifies that all approved stories run in each issue
●Reads and approves article proposals
●Reads and makes final edits of every article for clarity and professionalism (news writing)
●Motivates others to do their best
●Not afraid to give constructive criticism or work with writers to shorten their articles
Assistant EIC (The Enforcer):
●Helps the EIC with daily operations.
●Helps EIC choose articles for paper and online issues
●Creates a Pitch Spread Sheet every month and ensures that journalists have the required items
●Reads every article for clarity and professionalism (news writing)
●Ensure all journalists meet there deadline and follows up each day with a status
●Reports status of journalists on Progress Board and Pitch Spread Sheet
Online News Editor:
- Reads all articles scheduled to be posted online to ensure clarity and professionalism
- Uploads articles with corresponding picture to the online edition
- Makes all deadlines set by EIC and Advisor
- Helps Assistant Editor with motivation when needed
Layout Editor:
●Edits final section layouts once before final deadline.
●Works with EIC to create a “dummy” of every issue
●At least one (1) year of layout experience preferred from yearbook or newspaper.
News Editor:
●Help writers in the news section if they need assistance
●Edit stories in assigned section
●Lays out stories in the news section
●At least one (1) year of layout experience preferred from yearbook or newspaper.
Student Life Editor:
●Help writers in the student life section if they need assistance
●Edit stories in assigned section
●Lays out stories in the student life section
●At least one (1) year of layout experience preferred from yearbook or newspaper.
Opinion Editor:
●Help writers in the opinion section if they need assistance
●Edit stories in assigned section
●Lays out stories in the opinion section
●At least one (1) year of layout experience preferred from yearbook or newspaper.
Sports Editor:
●Help writers in the sports section if they need assistance
●Edit stories in assigned section
●Lays out stories in the sports section
●At least one (1) year of layout experience preferred from yearbook or newspaper.
Entertainment Editor:
●Help writers in the entertainment section if they need assistance
●Edit stories in assigned section
●Lays out stories in the entertainment section
●At least one (1) year of layout experience preferred from yearbook or newspaper.
Photo Editor:
●Take pictures for stories assigned each month if assigned writer cannot make it.
●Scan photos or distribute digital photos to assigned staff members
●Take photos at assemblies and major school events
●Makes a grayscale copy of every photo in the school’s picasa account or in Photoshop.
●Access to Instagram through mobile device
Copy Editor: (News, Opinion) (Student Life, Editorial) (Sports, Entertainment, Special)
●Copy edit assigned sections of newspaper at final story deadline.
Distribution Editor:
●Organizes and assigns distribution in school for each issue
●Addresses envelopes and mails out issues of the newspaper to area high schools, businesses who advertised in each issue of the newspaper, and misc. people.
Social Media Manager:
- Makes news posts to twitter and facebook
- Has access to mobile twitter/facebook
- Continuously meets deadlines in achieving “followers” and likes”
- Comes up with ideas to increase readership online and social media

Staff Position Contract
I, ______, am aware and agree to the following terms. If I am selected for the position, I am aware I have to fulfill the following obligations and hold myself accountable to the following:

_____ If I an unable to carry out my responsibilities due to an absence, long-term absence, or field trip, I understand I need to delegate my responsibilities to another person on staff.
_____ I will treat others on staff with respect and courtesy. I will not complain nor talk about another staff member unless I see the need to report them to Mrs. Rockefeller. After that, I realize that I am responsible for speaking to that person.
