DIRECTIONS

Walkons come off ferry and head down Front Street to tree in the street. Left up Spring Street one block to First Street. Turn right. Two blocks on right just past Whale Museum turn right and go down behind building.

Door is at the end of the ramp. Great Location! Great View.

And here we are at the Legion Hall September 16

That neat picture was taken by Keith, N7SLN. Thank you - wish we could see you in there too.

The view is great and the sandwiches from the Cannery were good. We’ll bring our own pot of coffee in October, though, because of the 50 cents per item for takeout. Present were: Charlie, W7BXH; Nancy, KD7IRD; John, N7JN; Faith, XYL-N7JN; Laura, KD7FRE; Jerry, KD7FRD; Marty, KC7DBI; Keith, N7SLN; Peter, K2SPR; Babs, KD7CIN and Bud, W7COW.

Great discussion about the ailing repeater, new location and possible frequencies was continued. After the meeting, Peter, K2SPR, and Keith, N7SLN went up and checked out Dick’s friend’s garage on the side of Mt. Constitution. This is a possible site and pretty good. Discussion with the Orcas Fire Chief were not fruitful. E-mail to Sheriff Cummings was more useful. He thinks that his Department can fund our sharing their space on top of Mt. Constitution. Repeater Trustee Dick, K7KFM, has applied for coordination of the UHF & VHF repeaters on Mt. Constitution and has received informal approval. Peter and Keith will bench test the repeater as part of its move. The ARES net been meeting regularly at 8 PM. The net is pretty firmly moved to a default frequency of 147.480. It is up to net control not to lose anyone. The Lopez Hams have been working on CW on Wednesday evenings. Charlie, W7BXH and John Deeds, N7JN offered help in practicing code.

Kudos for Charlie & Dick’s Class

in a letter to Dave , temporary Bulletin Editor, dated 7-10-00

“NEW HAM: Outstanding job Dick Morrison, K7KFM, and Charlie Lindenburg, W7BXH.

Profound thanks to Dick and Charlie for their awesome new ham radio operator course January to March, 2000. Both Dick and Charlie are generous with their time teaching us what seemed initially confusing. Their patience with theory and code teachings are entertaining and enjoyable, making the course a bunch of fun and quite worthwhile.. Charlie’s code practices were full of the novices intrigue. His messages gave us belly laughs at his off the wall prose. Dick has all kinds of simply humourus ways of explaining complexity. Both Charlie and Dick got us thinking and working together.

Thanks also to our volunteer examiner committee: Mike Speece, KI7YU; John Deeds, N7JN and Isaac Weaver, AA7BK, who made it a real go for all of us! Thanks Hams!

Frank Beatty, KD7IRE”

Bob, W7HPO, SK

Local TV stations Provide Repeater Facility Upgrade:

The National Weather Service says two TV stations serving the Springfield, Missouri area - KOLR and KDEB - have donated antenna and tower facilities valued at $250,000 for use by Amateur Radio SKYWARN and other emergency groups. Quorum Broadcasting, parent company of KOLR and KDEB, provided the facilities, and the 145.49 repeater was scheduled to move to the new site on September 1. The 145.49 re[eater trustee and club president, Michael Blake, N0NQW, called the occasion “an important day, not only for the National Weather Service SKYWARN nets, but for the other emergency service groups in the region.” The donation includes a five-year unlimited use contract between the repeater group and the broadcaster, guaranteeing a location for Amateur Radio SKYWARN and emergency operations.
