“ebrary” is an online multidisciplinary database, with more than 38,000 e-books covering a broad scope of academic disciplines, published by the world's most prestigious publishers.

To access ebrary, go to the library page through “myuos portal”. Click on the “Search” link, “Find a Book”, the “UOS e-Books” link

Searching ebrary

ebrary offers three searching options, “Simple” search, “Advanced” search and browse “All Subjects”.

Simple Search,

·  Users may search for keywords / terms across thousands of e-books in the database.

Advanced Search

·  Users can search for keywords / terms, and select the field to search in, from the pull-down menu

·  The search can be refined by adding additional search terms. More search boxes can be added as required.

“All Subjects” Search

·  By selecting “All Subjects”, you can search for books on specific subject. Click on the required subject from the list retrieved.

·  To narrow your search, select additional more specific subjects within the selected one.

Viewing the Results

Two options are available for viewing the search results,

·  The Quick View, which allows instant viewing of the document in the browser,

·  ebrary Reader View, which requires the ebrary Reader download, and permits more functions such as printing, copying, creating bookshelf, highlighting text, adding notes and benefit from the InfoTools menu options.

InfoTools Menu

A powerful customized set of utilities that link the user to other online resources and searching options, are presented while viewing with ebrary reader. By selecting a word or phrase, the InfoTools features will be activated automatically against the selected term. Features include define, explain, translation to many languages including Arabic, find places, find someone’s biography or address. Moreover, users can copy a highlighted text or paragraph, and paste with automatic reference citation created by ebrary

Through InfoTools, users can instantly search for the selected “word / phrase” against the Library Catalog, the Library Online Databases and the Internet using various search engines (Google, Yahoo, AltaVista, alltheweb).

Personal Bookshelf

Creating a personal Bookshelf, allows users to build their own collection by adding books of interest to their virtual bookshelf, highlight text in any book, and write down notes. Automatically, Documents and individual notes will be stored in folders, to be retrieved from the bookshelf, effortless.
