East Cornwall Harriers Caradon Primary Schools Cross-Country League

East Cornwall Harriers

Primary Schools Cross-Country League

  1. The league shall consist of 5 events held throughout the Autumn and Winter school terms.
  1. Each event shall consist of 4 races:
  1. Year 3 and Year 4 Girls
  2. Year 3 and Year 4 Boys
  3. Year 5 and Year 6 Girls
  4. Year 5 and Year 6 Boys

3. Each school shall be allowed to enter a maximum of six children in each race, therefore a maximum of 24 children per school. Each school shall register the competing children with the Registration Marshal before the start of each event and pay all relevant fees of £1 per child to the Registration Marshal. Each school should also designate a responsible person to act as a race marshal who shall be made known to the Registration Marshal when collecting a Hi-Vis Bib. In the event of a school being found to have competed with more than six runners in a race then the first six runners to finish shall have their scores recorded; all subsequent runners will be disqualified from that event and the school shall not have a team score recorded for that race at the event.

4.Under no circumstances is a Year 2 child allowed to compete in this league. Only those children in each Year group shall be allowed to compete in their respective age race. Should it be found that a child is competing in the incorrect age race then that child shall be disqualified from that event. Should a Year 2 child be found to be competing then not only shall that child not be allowed to take any further part in the league but also that the school team shall not have a team score recorded for that race at that event in which the infringement took place.

5.At the start of each race the competing children shall line up in the allotted positions one behind the other and not encroach upon other schools starting positions.

6.All instructions issued must be followed. Any child found to be cheating by not following the full course route, impeding another competitor in any way or by any other aspect of gamesmanship shall be disqualified from that event.

7.To qualify for a presentation medal each competing child shall need to have completed their race in at least three out of the five events. To qualify for a league placing each competing child shall need to have completed their race in at least four out of the five events. In the event of a child completing each applicable race at all five of the events then the highest four finishing positions will be used to determine that child’s league position.

  1. To qualify for a team score in a race, a school will need to have at least four children complete the race. Should more than four children from a school finish in a race then the highest four finishing positions shall be used to determine the schools team score for that race. To qualify for a team placing in the league then at least four team scores need to be recorded. In the event of a school recording five team scores then the highest four team scores shall be used to determine that school’s team league position.
  1. Scoring shall be determined as follows:

i. Individual Score. 101 Points less the confirmed finished position shall be awarded to each runner. For example 101 – 1 = 100 points, for the first placed runner; 101 – 2 = 99 points, shall be awarded to the second place runner. In the event of there being 101 completing runners or more then each completing runner shall score 0 points towards their league position.

ii. Team score. Each of the four children contributing towards the team score shall have their confirmed Individual scores added together to determine team score. For example should the confirmed finishing positions of the four qualifying children be first, second, third and fourth then the team score for that race shall be 100+99+98+97=394. In the event of a tie between teams with points then event position shall be determined by the highest individual placing recorded from runners from the two tied teams.

10.The results from each event shall be published in the following edition of The Cornish Times. Results will not be amended from each event unless appeal is made directly to the Results Secretary either by email or telephone from the appointed schools cross-country liaison officer within 14 days of the event.

  1. League positions shall be determined by score in descending order in the Individual Standings. In the event of a tie then league position shall be determined by count-back procedures in the following order.
  1. The highest finishing position from the four recorded qualifying scores from each runner shall determine league position. In the event of each runner having the same highest finish position recorded then the second highest finishing position recorded shall determine the league position and so on until a league position is determined.
  2. In the event of a continued tie then recorded results from the fifth race will be taken into consideration with the highest result determining the league position. Should a tied runner not have a fifth score then the runner with the fifth score shall be awarded the league position.
  3. Should the runners still be tied after the count-back procedures have been followed then a tie shall be awarded.
  1. League positions shall be determined by score in descending order in the Team Standings. In the event of a tie then league positions shall be determined by count-back procedures in the following order.
  1. The highest score from the four recorded qualifying scores from the teams shall determine league position. In the event of each team having the same highest finish position recorded then the second highest team score recorded shall determine the league position and so on until a league position is determined.
  2. In the event of a continued tie then recorded results from the fifth race will be taken into consideration with the highest result determining the league position. Should a tied team not have a fifth score then the team with the fifth score shall be awarded the league position.
  3. Should the teams still be tied after the count-back procedures have been followed then a tie shall be awarded.
