WELCOME

Welcome to the Pathways Lab at HartsvilleMiddle School! I am excited to have your child in class and am looking forward to a wonderful new semester. Pathways is a career class where your child will have the opportunity to explore different professions. There are fourteen (14) total careers. This is a self paced class where each student will be held accountable for productive time in class.

ACTIVITIES

Each career module contains:

  • Ten (10) activities.
  • Nine (9) of the activities contain five (5) multiple choice questions. The students are given the questions and possible answer choices in advance and write them down.
  • At the end of the lesson, they will complete a hands-on activity and take a quiz.
  • Their score appears immediately and the computer shows them which ones they may have missed. They mark those as incorrect on their paper and then I allow them to re-listen and retake the quiz one time.
  • There should not be any reason for failure when they are allowed to retake each of the nine (9) quizzes one time each and the lesson gives them the answers. They are not allowed to move on to the next lesson unless they either received a perfect score the first time or they did a retake.
  • Activity 10 is a twenty (20) question test taken from the previous nine (9) activities

and is an open note test.

GRADING

  • Each time a student takes an activity quiz, it is averaged;therefore, each progress report may contain a slightly different quiz average.
  • Other grades will consist of an essay, folder check, and participation.
  • All four (4) grades will bear equal weight.

SUPPLIES

Daily supplies will consist of a pocket folder, notebook paper, and a pencil. The folder will remain in my room. I strongly encourage providing your child with his/her own set of headphones or earbuds. They may be left with me and will be locked in the cabinet and only used by your child. If you choose to do this, place them in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name labeled on it. All headphones will be returned to the student on the last day of class. Thank you in advance for your help with this.

We fly planes, build bridges, design houses, take blood pressure, use digital cameras, write radio scripts, use a GPS receiver, cut foam with the Robo Board, make power point presentations and experiment with microscopes.
