Texas Impact CPRI VISTA Position Details

AmeriCorps *VISTA is a federal volunteer program which stands for Volunteer in Service to America. Becoming an AmeriCorps*VISTA is a perfect for those interested in a career with non-profits or government. Texas Impact is looking for VISTA candidates interested in spearheading a project that will help Texans living in poverty across the State to be connected to social services. Texas Impact’s Community Partner Recruitment Initiative (CPRI) Outreach Coordinator will work to recruit faith and community based organizations to join the statewide Community Partner program. Texas Impact, in partnership with, Baylor University’s Texas Hunger Initiative and the Texas Association of Community Health Centers, have partnered with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to implement and promote the Community Partner Program providing a great opportunity to work with a wide network of professionals.

Duties and responsibilities of the CPRI VISTA member include:

  • Recruit organizations to become Community Partners
  • Assist organizations with volunteer organization and program implementation
  • Act as a liaison between the state’s Health and Human Service Commission and recruited organizations
  • Develop and execute a written work plan and timeline for outreach
  • Develop program materials
  • Assist with the facilitation of community partner orientation, training and assistance
  • Maintain accurate records of work
  • Report on progress in statistical and narrative reports
  • Serve as public ambassador for the CPRI project
  • Participate in all CPRI and AmeriCorps training, conference calls, events, service projects, and other activities.

AmeriCorps*VISTA members receive a small living allowance, education award, forbearance on federal student loans, and non-compete status for one year with the federal government.Positions are available in Tyler, Austin, Amarillo, McAllen, San Angelo, San Antonio, and Lubbock.

Service end date:07/19/14

All applicants must be in the system and accepted into their position by Texas Impact Project Director by May 30th.

Qualifications:

Basic:

  • Available to serve full-time for one year
  • Valid driver’s license with dependable mode of transportation
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check
  • Organized and self motivated
  • Able to work flexible 40 or more hour weeks, including some evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to attend mandatory VISTA and CPRI trainings.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, social work, sociology or related field or at least two years of work experience
  • Knowledge of Texas geography and communities
  • Be team-oriented, have self-initiative and be willing to take on a wide range of challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work with a variety of personalities.
  • Prior experience in organizing and community outreach.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office

3.)Interview with Project Director (Andrea)

4.)Interview with Regional Director (If no Regional Director in place the project Director will make final placement decision.)

5.)Applicant accepts our offer.

Once the Texas Impact team has reviewed an applicant’s resume and application they will be contacted for a pre-screening phone call consisting of ten questions. These ten questions highlight the applicants desire to join AmeriCorps, familiarity with the VISTA program, open to working with differing faith-traditions, their understanding of the project. Willingness to travel and speak in public, computer literacy, outreach experience and explanation of why they think they would be an asset to our team. Based on answers given in the pre-screening, the Project Director will contact the candidate for a formal interview or to let them know they are not a good fit for the project. After completion of the second interview, if the candidate is a good fit, the Project Director will coordinate an interview between the candidate and the Regional Director.

If a Regional Director recruits a candidate the Regional Director should contact Andrea Earl at with that candidate’s information and resume. The Regional Director must inform the candidate to fill out an online application. Once application and resume are received the Project Director will contact the candidate for a final interview.

Once applicant accepts offer the Project Director and state office the Regional Director will be contacted and the candidate must begin filling out all necessary AmeriCorps forms and documents.
