RESOLUTION NO. 2931

WHEREAS, the Governing Body of the City of Overland Park, Kansas, is aware of the need for parks, open space, and recreational activities to insure desirable community development and a favorable quality of life for the residents of Overland Park, Kansas; and

WHEREAS, the Governing Body of the City of Overland Park, Kansas, has appointed a Citizens Advisory Council on Parks and Recreation for the purpose of advising and making recommendations to the staff and Governing Body of the City concerning the Parks and Recreation desires and needs of the citizens of Overland Park, Kansas; and

WHEREAS, the City continues to grow, acquire additional and unique park properties, and continues to desire to provide a favorable quality of life for its citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS:

That the Governing Body on its own behalf and that of all of the citizens of the City of Overland Park, Kansas, does hereby establish the following programs, facilities, land acquisitions, and improvements, which are not listed in any priority order, as having great value and importance for insuring a desirable quality of life for the community.

Acquisition of properties to continue the extension of the Indian Creek Greenway System, the Tomahawk Greenway System, and any major connecting tributaries to both Creek systems.

Acquisition of properties to serve existing and developing neighborhoods or subdivisions with neighborhood parks consisting primarily of playgrounds, walkways, picnic tables and landscaping.

Acquisition of properties to facilitate completion of the Greenway Linkage Plan.

Development and operation of the Arboretum in accordance with the Master Development Plan.

Development and operation of the Kemper Farm.

Development and operation of the expansion of the Deanna Rose Childrens Farmstead in accordance with the Master Development Plan.

Continue to improve, upgrade, and renovate swimming pools, community centers, shelters and all other major facilities and infrastructure.

Continue development and improvement of neighborhood parks with an emphasis on playgrounds, open play areas, walking, tennis, fishing, landscaping and picnicking.

Development and operation of City golf facilities in accordance with the Master Development Plan.

FURTHER, the Governing Body does hereby express its intent to continually reassess, evaluate and seek citizen input towards achieving these land acquisitions and completing these master development plans and improvements as well as the overall needs of the citizens of Overland Park.

RESOLUTION NO. 1002 is hereby rescinded.
