Due to the new LMEA All-State Audition requirements for percussion, our percussionist must audition on snare, melodic percussion, and timpani. This change is in contrast to our traditional separate snare audition, melodic percussion audition and timpani audition. This was done to help develop the total percussionist, and to perhaps prepare them for college.

It is now time to look at aligning our All-Youth and Junior High requirements to prepare our students for the All-State audition. We would be doing our students an injustice by continuing to prepare them ONLY on snare, melodic percussion, or timpani, as they would then be unprepared when they audition at the High School level.

Most Band Directors today recognize the need to develop the total percussionist as a MUSICIAN. Below are suggested changes in our District VII Honor Band requirements:
