Due 1/22 – 20 pts. – no late work for credit

-The rough draft must be typed and printed on paper when you come to class.

-The only heading is in the right header: full name, page number if you want

-Double-space in 12 pt. Times New Roman. .

-descriptive title: plain text, centered at top of first page

-Use present tense to discuss the events of the play.

-Use formal English. Avoid idiomatic language.

-Do not use any personal pronouns.

-Contractions are not allowed.

-Meaningfully incorporate literary terminology.

-Even though the examiner will have read the play, you should contextualize your quotations. This might be as simple as adding, “In the scene after Nora has sneaked a macaroon, …”

-Proofread and edit for errors before you print your copy to bring to class.

-The IB word limit is 1200-1500 words. Use the word count. Record your word count at the top of the first page.

-Introduction includes:

-hook

-thesis statement

-downshift (including explanation of any unwieldy terms)

-preview sub-assertions

-includes play’s title and author

-Sub-assertions:

-Be sure that the topic sentence for each sub-assertion is tied directly to the thesisstatement. Connect each point you make to the thesis statement.

-Discuss evidence in LOGICAL ORDER.

-DO NOT WRITE ONE, BIGPARAGRAPH FOR EACH SUB-ASSERTION!

-one topic=one paragraph; use the categories you created when you organized your evidence

-Make sure each paragraph is unified: TS, CL.

-Anchor ALL quotations. No quotations except those used for a title or hook should ever stand alone!

-Be sure that your anchors and quotations form complete sentences.

-Review dialogue format forquotations that includes back and forth conversation between two or more characters.

-Be sure to explain how each piece of evidence is relevant to your thesis statement.

-Conclusion:

-Do not simply copy and paste your introduction into the conclusion.

-Re-word your thesis statement.

-Review your sub-assertions.

-Include your “final thoughts.”

I will post the citations for each work on the website.
