Summer Bash – Debriefing
The Summer Bash was held on June 27. Rosemary shared the result of the 2 evaluations.
Participant Survey - For participants, we received approximately 55 responses from a short paper and pencil evaluation that was then put into Survey Monkey for analysis.
- There were three questions that address changes in behavior based on information presented at the event. These included 1) likelihood of driving while under the influence 2) likelihood of letting a friend drive under the influence and 3) likelihood of getting into a car with someone under the influence. 98% of the responses indicated that they were extremely unlikely or unlikely to exhibit these behaviors after attending the event.
- In addition, over 80% reported that some of the information was new to the participant and over 88% were very or somewhat confident in knowing what resources are available for those needing help with a drug or alcohol problem.
Vendor Survey - For vendors and volunteers of the event, we sent out 20 evaluations via email after the event and collected 16 responses. The evaluation focused on their level of satisfaction in the areas of location, support, amount of participation, activities, documentary, and wrecked car exhibit.
- On a scale from Poor (1) to excellent (5), the average response was 4.39.
- Items that scored below the average could be considered as areas of improvement. These included participation of students, the documentary, and the wrecked car exhibit.
- Many made the comment that the event should be moved to the fall or spring semester to increase participation of students. This information will be used to make adjustments to future events.
Committee Comments – As part of the discussion at this meeting the committee made the following comments / suggestions / observations:
- The banner for the “wrecked car” had about 5 comments. This banner can be used again for future events. We could either get another car or have pictures / newspaper articles as part of the exhibit.
- The documentary seemed to have low attendance with no more than 3 – 4 participants sitting at any one time. While the participation may have been low, it seemed to be impactful for those that took the time to watch. For the cost (free) it would be reasonable to continue to consider this for future events.
- There were several comments from both the vendors and members of the committee that the event should be offered during the long semester. It was the opinion of the committee that we should keep the summer event and add another event in the fall. It was suggested that we do a similar event similar to the one we did in October. At this time, we perhaps can have another Town Hall meeting in conjunction with this event or during the same week. It was also suggested that we have a community event around The Last High documentary.
- We need to have a presence at the Fall Fiesta and Spring Fling by having a table with information and resources. Fall Fiesta will be toward the end of October or early November.
Biennial Report
Rosemary presented a draft/outline of the Biennial Report that will be due this summer. A subcommittee will meet directly after this committee meeting. We will present a draft of the document again to the entire committee at our next meeting.
Drug Free Campus Logo
Rosemary shared with the committee the two options that were created by marketing in the branding of our Drug Free Campus Logo. Of the six members in attendance, the vote was tied between the two. Rosemary will send out the draft options to the committee in color which may give them a better idea of the difference between the two. We will continue the discussion at our next meeting.
Other Announcements / Events
- The next coalition meeting will be August 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the LaPorte Police Department. Any member of this committee is welcome to attend.
Next Meeting
Our next meeting is scheduled for July 27th at 2:00 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
