Head of English Regions

LocationRTPI London Office

Job PurposeTo support the delivery of a programme of services for members in the English regions in line with the RTPI’s corporate strategy and agreed core objectives for the Regions. To strengthen relationships between the Regions, other RTPI departments and the wider membership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery by a team of Regional Co-ordinators of agreed services for members in the RTPI regions.
  • Provide advice and support for regional committees to ensure effective development of regional business plans and budgets which are consistent with the RTPI’sstrategic objectives and help to monitor delivery against the agreed plans.
  • Liaise with departmental heads across the RTPI and with regional committees to facilitateregional contribution to and delivery of national projects and programmes, drawing on regional diversity and best practice.
  • Support the Regional Committees to effectively plan,manage and deploy budgets and pricing structures for activity programmes, including provision of CPD, in the context of the RTPI’s wider objectives for the provision of training and development within the Corporate Strategy.
  • Ensure that a comprehensive programme for the regions addresses both needs identified regionally and those of wider relevance to RTPI members and is consistent with, and supports rather than competes with, other RTPI initiatives delivered through RTPI Services Ltd and its partners, and with new RTPI programmes including for on line learning.
  • Manage and develop the team of Regional Co-ordinators including agreeing and reviewing workplans and encouraging the team to share initiatives, expertise and learning across regions as appropriate to ensure consistency of provision for members.
  • To work collaboratively with other RTPI departments ICT and Membership to further develop and improve efficient and effective systems and processes for the operation of RTPI Regions.
  • Provide secretariat and support for the Regions and Nations Panel including attending and arranging meetings, preparingagendas with the Chair of the Panel and circulating papers and minutes.
  • Co ordinate support for the Young Planners Network in the Regions.
  • Undertake such other duties, commensurate with the post, as may be directed by the Director of Professional Standards.

This role will involve travel across England to meet with committees and regional staff and occasional evening meetings.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following attributes, skills and experience:

Essential

  • Experience of managing and developing a team
  • Experience of stakeholder management
  • Experience of working in a regionalised structure or multi-site organisation
  • Experience of planning and managing budgets
  • Experience of report writing for a variety of different audiences
  • An understanding and appreciation of challenges and opportunities of working within a membership organisation and charity
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
  • Good communication skills both written and oral
  • A strong commercial awareness and the ability to apply this knowledge to a membership organisation environment.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with or supporting committees of volunteers
  • Experience of planning, organising or co-ordinating events
  • Experience of working in a membership organisation
