Douglas College Concurrent Studies: Registration Information

Douglas College has created an opportunity for high school students to enroll in college courses while attending Grade 12. Students may apply for Concurrent Studies and register in any first-year university transfer course offered at the College. Prerequisites are waived for Concurrent Studies students (though students may need to write an English assessment in order to register for an English or Communications class).

On-line registration for the winter semester opens in mid-November. Interested students must first apply to the college, be admitted as a Concurrent Studies student, and receive a student number before they can register for courses. The total cost of a 3-credit Douglas College Concurrent Studies course is approximately $280.00 (International students pay $1500.00).

Douglas College course options are listed on the college website (Go to the student services tab then select Course Schedule under Applying and Registering).

An overview of accessible Winter 2014Concurrent Studies courses is also available from Alla Shishkov, Regional Student Transitions Coordinator (see contact info at bottom of page).

What can I do to help?

You can help by informing students about the opportunity to take Douglas College courses in Winter 2014 and by assisting students with two application forms:

(a)Application for Admission (available online at:

form-201063157.pdf)

(b) Concurrent Studies Application(available at your school career centre)

Counselors must recommend students for Concurrent Studies by signing the applicable application form. Students are also required to include an interim transcript so the Registrar’s Office can ensure that applicants possess the background knowledge needed to succeed in a post-secondary course.

If possible, please send both applications and the transcript from your school to Douglas College in one package. The mailing address is on the application forms.

What criteria should I apply when deciding to recommend a student for Concurrent Studies?

The students you recommend for Concurrent Studies should be Grade 12 students who are self-motivated, organized, and able to write well (exceptions can be made for younger gifted learners). Students need not complete English 12 to be eligible for Concurrent Studies, but they should be planning to take English 12 prior to graduation. Students interested in a Mathematics or Science course should be strong in Math. Students should have time in their schedules (and personal lives) to manage the additional work.
