Beginning Piecing Supply List

This class is designed to help you develop your piecing skills. We’ll start with good cutting practices and getting your scant 1/4” seam allowance and then begin creating four different blocks to build your skills in piecing. The blocks will finish at 9” x 9” and you may find that you want to make multiples of each block to create a quilt, table runner, pillow top, or other project from your completed blocks.

The blocks we’ll be working on for the Beginning Piecing will be Rail Fence, Square Dance, Nine Patch, and Alternate Nine Patch.

These blocks will give you a good foundation in piecing and will help you build your skills in cutting and stitching as well as practicing accuracy for your best results.

MATERIALS FEE:

$5.00 Payable to Instructor at First Class for Printing of Class Materials

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS:

You will need a minimum of three different fabrics for your blocks. In the ten blocks I created for the complete series (Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Piecing) I used at least six different fabrics.

You will want to have different colors for your fabrics or at least a light, medium, and dark if using the same color for your fabrics.

I would recommend at least 2/3 yard of each fabric if you are getting three fabrics and 1/2 yard of each fabric if you are getting more than three fabrics. These are somewhat generous amounts but will give you flexibility in determining which fabric to use for a particular block AND allow you to make more than one block of each type.

If you think you want to do the complete series I would suggest that you increase the yardage to at least 3/4 to 1 yard of each of the fabrics. Once again this is a generous amount but will give you flexibility.
