Resolution 05-11

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE WESTFIELD DISTRICT OF THE HAMILTON COUNTY PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS UNION,

LOCAL 4416

WHEREAS, all active members of the Professional Firefighters employed by the Town of Westfield (“Town”) are members of the Westfield District of the Hamilton County Professional Fire Fighters Union, Local 4416 (“Union”); and

WHEREAS, the members of the Union democratically elected the leadership of the Union to represent them on matters of wages, benefits and working conditions; and

WHEREAS, the Union leadership is in the best position to act as an agent representing the interest of all the professional Westfield Fire Fighters.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Westfield, Hamilton County that:

1. The Town hereby recognizes the Union and its elected representatives as agents for all of the Westfield Fire fighters, who are not in upper level policy making positions as defined by Indiana Code 36-8-1-12, for the purpose of meeting and conferring with the Town of Westfield on issues regarding wages, benefits, and working conditions, and

2. The Town shall recognize the Union as an agent for the Westfield Fire Fighters unless and until Union membership falls to fifty percent (50%) or below, or until the Westfield Town Council chooses to override this resolution by a future resolution or ordinances.

3. The Town shall also recognize the Westfield Fire chief as an agent of the Westfield Fire Fighters.

4. The Town of Westfield acknowledges that the current plans to become a City will not change the intent of this resolution and once City status is achieved this resolution will remain active until the City chooses to override this resolution by a future resolution or ordinance.
