Presentation, Poster, and Handout
Topic:
Group Members:
For this project, your group will be responsible for five components: 1) researching your topic, 2) developing a presentation that covers all of the necessary information, 3) compiling the information from your presentation into a one-page handout, 4) creating a poster that illustrates the main points of your presentation, and 5) making a works cited/bibliography that cites all of your sources.
Presentation:
Your group will be responsible for teaching your class about your assigned ruling dynasty/group. You will present on your subject for approximately 10 minutes and must cover all of the following topics:
-Time period
-the Rulers
-who they were (ethnic/geographic origins)
-how gained power
-key leaders
-Territory controlled
-how acquired
-Political Organization
-major goals/interests
-administration/government structure
-Unique Characteristics
-how different from the other Muslim rulers
-Decline/Loss of Power
-causes
-impact
-Significance to the Muslim World
You must present the above information in an organized and coherent fashion to ensure that your classmates understand your topic and get all the material they need.
Handout:
Your group must create a one-page handout that includes all the above required information from your presentation in an organized and concise manner.
-this handout will function as your classmates’ notes on your topic since your ruling dynasty/group will
appear on the chapter test
-you are responsible for clearly transmitting this information to your classmates, just as they are
responsible for teaching you about the other topics – do not let them down.
**you must have enough copies of your handout for each member of your class and you must turn a copy in with your poster and Works Cited
Poster:
On the provided poster board, illustrate your ruling dynasty/group and the main points covered in your presentation
-must include:
-topic name
-map of the territory your rulers controlled
-mark the location/boundaries of the territory and any major cities/regions
-may include any/all of the following:
-pictures of significant people; main facts/information; illustrations of activities/interests of the
rulers/dynasty
The poster should support your presentation, providing a snapshot of key information, while also being organized and attractive to look at.
Research/Works Cited:
You must research and reference at least five sources in the development of your presentation, poster, and handout
-one of these sources must be the text
-you may use the internet for research, but be sure that your sources are legitimate and reliable
-Wikipedia is eligible as long as the article you use is properly cited
You must cite the sources you use in a Works Cited that will be turned in on the day presentations begin
-you must use MLA format
-you must alphabetize by first word of each entry
**Though this is an informal research project and you will not be required to specifically cite each bit of information you reference in your presentation or handout, you are still bound by all rules concerning plagiarism
-do not copy information directly from your sources – even in your notes – be sure to put everything in your
own words and list your source in your Works Cited
Assessment:
The group project grade will be based on the following:
-Presentation:
-all necessary information covered
-organization of presentation
-presentation the assigned length
-Poster
-location shown on map
-appropriate amount of additional information/imagery
