Board of Education

The regular monthly meeting of the Lenape Valley Regional High School Board of Education was held on this date at 7:00 p.m. in the lower media center at the high school on 28 Sparta Road, Stanhope, New Jersey.

Mr. Kuncken called the meeting to order with the following statement:

In accordance with the provisions of the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, P.L. 1875, the Lenape Valley Regional High School Board of Education has caused notice of this regular monthly meeting to be posted in each of the three municipal buildings in the Regional District and the Lenape Valley Regional High School. Notice of this meeting has also been published in the New Jersey Herald and the Daily Record.

Announcement of Executive Session

An Executive Session may be held at the next regular monthly meeting for the purpose of discussing PERSONNEL/NEGOTIATIONS/LEGAL MATTERS. Action may or may not be taken. Mr. Kuncken led the flag salute.

Acceptance and Review of the Regular and Executive Meeting Minutes of April 26, 2016

Open to the Public

There were three (3) members of the public present.

Mrs. Peggy Spooner of Stanhope stated that she was a biology and physical education teacher, and has coached three sports. She is a substitute teacher here and was coming in three to four days a week in March. She stated that now, however, Mr. Claeys has been bringing in new substitutes. She asked if she has done something wrong and stated she wanted to find out why she is not substituting anymore.

Kyle Edwards of Byram, a Lenape student and member of the swim team, read the attached letter regarding the potential loss of Meghan Crampton as an assistant coach for the swim team. (Attached)


Board President’s Report

Mr. Kuncken stated that he attended Underclassmen Awards Night, Ensemble Night, the Music Honor Society induction, the School and Community Relations presentation, as well as many sporting events. He stated that success is not always defined by wins and losses, and that he wishes continued success to the individual athletes and teams as they finish the season.

He also stated that much will occur between now and the next Board meeting: the prom, awards nights, final exams, and graduation. He stated that he wished everyone to stay safe and healthy, and that he looks forward to a wonderful graduation ceremony on June 11.

Mr. DiRupo presented the following resolution for adoption:

1.  Cheerleading Camp

RESOLVED, That the Board of Education does hereby approve the attendance of approximately thirty student-athletes along with two faculty chaperones to attend Pine Forest Cheerleading Camp in Poconos, PA. The camp will be held August 9, 2016, through August 12, 2016. The camp will be funded by student-athletes, parents, and fundraising efforts.

2.  2016 Summer Enrichment

RESOLVED, That Student #1 be permitted to attend DCCF, 230 Diamond Spring Road, Denville, NJ 07834 as part of this student’s individualized summer educational program for the extension of the 2015/2016 school year as recommended by the Child Study Team. The cost for this program will be $5,350.00. Transportation is to be provided by the LVR School District; bus aide to be provided by SCC. Classification: AUT

RESOLVED, That Student #10 be permitted to participate in home instruction, as part of this student’s individualized summer educational program for the extension of the 2015/2016 school year as recommended by the Child Study Team. The cost for this program will be $1,980.00, based on Achieving Excellence rate, not to exceed 36 hours of instruction. Related services for this student will be billed separately. No transportation required. Classification: MD

RESOLVED, That Student #11 be permitted to attend instructional tutoring sessions at Lenape Valley Regional High School, 28 Sparta Road, Stanhope, NJ 07874 as part of this student’s individualized summer educational program for the extension of the 2015/2016 school year as recommended by the Child Study Team. The cost for this program will be $1,600.00 based on LVR tutoring rate, not to exceed 42 hours of instruction. Related services for this student will be billed separately. Transportation is to be provided by the LVR School District. Classification: COM

RESOLVED, That the Board of Education hereby certifies in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-16.10(c)4, that after review of the Board Secretary’s and Treasurer’s financial reports for the month of April 2016, and upon consultation with the appropriate district officials, no major account or fund has been over-expended and sufficient funds are available to meet the Board’s financial obligations for the 2015-2016 fiscal year.

2. Approval of Bills
